The Kansas City Chiefs have themselves a safety. Per a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs have agreed to terms with former Oakland Raiders safety Tyvon Branch.

The Chiefs have since confirmed the news. GM John Dorsey said in a statement: "We are excited we were able to reach a deal with Tyvon and bring him to Kansas City. He is a physical player who we feel can help our defense. We're looking forward to having him."

Branch visited the Chiefs on Monday. With Branch coming off two straight injury-riddled seasons, I hope this contract is structured in the Chiefs favor. If so, I like this move as insurance for the safeties the Chiefs could lose in free agency, including Kurt Coleman and Ron Parker, who is drawing interest from others.

Branch is a strong safety who will likely play closer to the line of scrimmage, which should help the Chiefs run defense.

It was reported last weekend that safety Tyvon Branch, who was released by the Oakland Raiders this offseason, would be visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that visit will take place on Monday.

Ron Parker took the spot of Eric Berry last year and while I don't know that Parker is officially gone from the Chiefs, there does seem to be plenty of interest from other teams.

As for Branch, he signed a four-year deal in Oakland back in 2012 but injuries have limited him to just five games in the last two seasons. Because of that injury history, the Chiefs might be able to get a good deal if they're interested in signing him. The Chiefs don't have much cap space after news hit that they plan to sign WR Jeremy Maclin to a five-year contract worth $11 million per year.

From what I have read, Branch is more of a box safety, which could be helpful considering the Chiefs issues stopping the run last year.
