The best coaching staff in football continues to shine in the heartland.

After beating the Seattle Seahawks 24-20 on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs are 7-3 and winners of five straight. They are also tied for first place with the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. There are a litany of reasons why Kansas City went from an 0-2 joke to a real contender for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Of all them, Andy Reid and his coaching staff top the list.

Reid's gameplan was masterful against Seattle, calling 18 pass plays and 28 runs behind a determined offensive line. The Seahawks entered the game tied for the best run defense per attempt at 3.2 yards, and allowed 6.3 against the Chiefs, letting Jamaal Charles dash wildly for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Often in his career, Reid has been criticized for going away from the run game early to feature a pass-happy attack. Lately, Reid has been channeling his inner Marty Schottenheimer and pounding away, wisely playing to the strengths of his team instead of forcing them to play his brand of ball.

Lately, Reid has been channeling his inner Marty Schottenheimer and pounding away, wisely playing to the strengths of his team instead of forcing them to play his brand of ball.

This coaching job by Reid and his staff has been nothing short of fantastic for the better part of the last seven weeks. Despite cutting Brandon Flowers, losing Derrick Johnson, Mike DeVito and Jeff Allen for the season to injury, and watching Dexter McCluster, Geoff Schwartz, Jon Aasamoah, Tyson Jackson and Branden Albert leave via free agency, the 2014 team is miles ahead of the 2013 group.

The talent on the field is solid and the execution and intelligence of the players are superb, but it is the coaching staff putting them in constant positions to succeed. Reid has creatively schemed around holes on the offensive line and the receiving group by running more and throwing quickly. The man known as Big Red is also mixing in De'Anthony Thomas with nice frequency and is keeping teams off balance with play-action passing.

Defensively, Bob Sutton has created a monster with his "they are not in until they are in" mentality. In past years, Kansas City would have allowed touchdowns on most if not all of Seattle's five forays into the red zone. On Sunday, even when things looked bleak, Sutton's men held firm. The second-ranked defense in points allowed surrendered two touchdowns while forcing a turnover on downs and a pair of field goals. Marshawn Lynch be damned, the Chiefs would not yield.

The coaching is what makes Thursday's potential trap game against the winless Oakland Raiders a comforting thought. The coaches won't allow the players to overlook Oakland, not with so much on the line. The Chiefs learned their lesson in Week 1 and since are playing the best football on this Earth. The Raiders will play hard, but they won't win against the best-coached team going.

Now, as the calendar threatens us with December, Kansas City has reason to believe it enjoys the best team in the NFL. After dismantling the Patriots, beating the Seahawks and toppling the Dolphins, Bills and Chargers on the road, the Chiefs' resume stacks up with any in the league.

Hey Andy, how 'bout those Chiefs?

The best post of the week is back.

The Kansas City Chiefs locker room celebration from the Chiefs 24-20 victory over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks. The Chiefs do this after every win, which means they've done this in seven of the last eight games.

"If I could dance, I'd dance," Andy Reid said.

Updating the Chiefs-Seahawks snap counts.

TE Travis Kelce played full time snaps in the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. This was the highest percentage of offensive snaps Kelce has played in a single game. It came because TE Anthony Fasano was ruled out with a knee injury before the game. The Chiefs, who like to run two tight end sets, turned to Kelce as their primary tight end and TE Phillip Supernaw, who was signed last week, as the second tight end.

Kelce ended the game with three receptions for 37 yards, which doesn't seem like a lot. But then you realize Smith only completed 11 passes for 108 yards and see it's actually a third of the passing offense.

Also of note in this week's snap counts is the total number of offensive plays each team ran. The Seahawks ran 25 more offensive snaps than the Chiefs did. Yet the Chiefs still won. That's a heck of a game.

Let's take a peek at this week's snap counts.

After showing off the character, toughness and ability against Seattle, the Chiefs showed everyone, including their fans, that anything is possible this season.

Skepticism has been the name of the game to this point.

Let me be frank as a Chiefs fan: I didn't truly expect the results from Sunday. Given the character, toughness and ability on both sides of the ball and special teams, I knew the Chiefs would be competitive. I even thought they could surprise if the Seahawks were having an off day. What I did not expect was the Chiefs very clearly being the better football team.

What happened on Sunday was one very good football team running into a great one, and it was the Super Bowl champions that went away from Arrowhead having lost the collision.

Not only did the Chiefs defense make a three-and-out statement to start the game, but the offense took the keys and went for a nine-minute joyride on their own first drive. It was a wake-up call that showed the Chiefs were going to be a force from the outset. It was a theme that continued through two fourth down stuffs in the fourth quarter with everything on the line against Marshawn Lynch and company.

This game served notice to the rest of the NFL that the Chiefs must be included in any conversation about Super Bowl contenders.

Even more amazing is the fact that the Chiefs held it together even when they didn't play their best. There were dumb penalties that sustained Seattle drives, such as Ron Parker's illegal use of hands that nullified Justin Houston's 10-yard strip sack. There were uncharacteristic fumbles from Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce that allowed Seattle to not only stay in the game, but even take the lead. The Seahawks were only close because the Chiefs allowed them to be. Despite their ability to gain major yards on the ground, and kudos for that, it's hard to imagine the Chiefs not up 21-3 at halftime without these mistakes or help from the refs (seriously where were the calls on Seattle in the second when interfering with both Dwayne Bowe and Kelce on back to back passes).

Even more, these Chiefs have a tremendous amount of ground to cover ahead of them. The offensive line didn't allow a single hit to Alex Smith, but that's also due to the tremendous ground game and low total plays (46 compared to Seattle's 71). The secondary also showcased some growing pains, and certainly the tape from watching Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson succeed on the ground will bring up teaching points as well. On a team this young and inexperienced, the continued game experience and practice reps will only make them better as they go.

If anything, this game served notice to the rest of the NFL that the Chiefs must be included in any conversation about Super Bowl contenders. They've played tough on the road against the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. They've fleeced the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. They've taken care of business against every team they're supposed to (remember the Titans game never happened, kids), and now they've defeated the Super Bowl champs.

There's zero excuse to leave them out of the conversation at this point. There's also zero excuse for any more skepticism. These Chiefs are as ready as any other team in the league to go the whole way to Glendale for Super Bowl XLIX, and all of us, myself included, need to finally recognize as much.
