Demarcus Robinson has a chance to be a very good wide receiver. He flashed in the X role last night. Him and Chris Conley are different types of players and both added their personality to the role. Conley is bigger, a better blocker, more physically imposing and deliberate in his routes. Robinson has looser hips, a more diverse route tree and more upside as an explosive playmaker.

If he continues to play like this going into next year, there will be some interesting personnel decisions in 2018. Robinson has rapport with QBOTF Patrick Mahomes already. The Chiefs might have another good problem on their hands.

*Seinfeld voice* “Witzmann!”

If Brian Witzmann starts on October 30th against Denver, I have a hard time believing Parker Ehinger will see the field as a starter barring injury. If the Chiefs value that continuity on the line, I understand why they did it. However, Witzmann’s performance to this date doesn’t warrant the leash he’s been given. If Ehinger can’t reclaim the role, I’d add guard to the draft list.

Big Fish

Eric Fisher is underperforming his contract. The Chiefs invested heavily in him and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif as ascending players. Fisher hasn’t ascended and LDT has been hurt. I think both contracts may have had something to do with John Dorsey’s firing. He waited too long to re-sign Justin Houston and Eric Berry, so he was aggressive in locking up those two. With Mitch Morse’s extension looming (or not), the decisions aren’t getting easier. The offensive line isn’t terrible. You just can’t have a ton of money tied up in not terrible.

The Chiefs need an enforcer

I think the loss of Eric Berry is finally starting to catch up to the Chiefs. One of my biggest issues with the Chiefense is they lack a physical edge. Berry at times was the tone setter for the Chiefs last year. The Chiefs need that desperately. The defensive personnel has a lot of athletic players, but no bullies. Maybe if Justin Houston moved from safety (kidding, sorry) back to an edge defender, he could help provide that.

They’re going to win a lot of games

Finally, the Chiefs are probably winning 12 or 13 games. They’ve already won five games in their most difficult stretch of the season. They have one of the easiest remaining schedules in the NFL. As many issues have shown up the last two weeks, players start returning, the schedule starts to get easier, and the Chiefs are well positioned to peak at the most critical time of the year. That’s all that means anything to the current fanbase anyway. We’ve seen a lot of regular season wins. There’s a few January (and dare I say February?) demons to exorcise. The Chiefs are well positioned to have a great shot at doing it.

Is it Bob Sutton or the players?

After the Kansas City Chiefs game ended and they officially lost to the Oakland Raiders to drop to 5-2 on the season, I sat back and watched some of the mentions on Twitter, the comments on Facebook and in our own comments section.

The most familiar criticism came against Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton.

Why are the Chiefs so bad against the run? Can they find a better option than CB Phillip Gaines, who continues to get torched? Can Terrance Mitchell get some help if they’re going to target him 15 times in a game like the Raiders did? Can the Chiefs get some sort of pass rush?

CAN YOU NOT DROP JUSTIN HOUSTON IN COVERAGE ON THE GAME’S BIGGEST PLAY?

(There are actual reasons for that last one that makes sense but I’m too fired up not to in all caps there)

This was a bad game for the Chiefs defense. It felt a little bit like Deshaun Watson throwing those bombs up in the air and completing them but not doing that in garbage time, doing it when it actually matters.

I don’t know the solution here. Should Sutton have blitzed more? Derek Carr was 9/11 for 132 yards and two touchdowns against the blitz. Should they have blitzed less? Chiefs fans are already saying they don’t get enough pressure.

Again, I don’t know the solution but the Chiefs defense has clearly taken a step back this year. I don’t think you’re talking about firing Bob Sutton here. I know some Chiefs fans are but I’m not. If the Chiefs are this bad at the end of the season and it ends with another one and out then maybe we’re talking. But not right now.

After the Steelers game, you could say, well, they only gave up 19 points. That was true and I was one of those people making that argument even though the defense looked bad last week against the Steelers too. This week? That’s a tougher argument to make.

This defensive unit and this coaching staff has been here for four-plus years now. They can’t keep going backwards defensively. This feels as close as the Andy Reid Chiefs have ever been to being a contender. They need to figure this out. These teams don’t come around all the time.

What a way for the Kansas City Chiefs to lose. The Oakland Raiders win, 31-30. This game had a little bit of everything, including one of the wildest endings I remember. The Raiders thought they won with a long touchdown pass to Jared Cook then the Chiefs thought they won - a few times - before the Raiders threw the game winner with no time left.

The ending was insane.

The Raiders threw what they thought was a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jared Cook with 16 seconds left. However, the refs ruled that Cook was not in yet and that he was down a half yard short. So there was a 10-second run-off and with 8 seconds left they got it back.

They threw a touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree BUT offensive pass interference was called. They threw an incomplete pass over the middle but it was defensive holding. The same call to Eric Murray on the next play and another shot at it.

Carr then hit Crabtree two yards out for the win. Killer game for the Chiefs to lose.

It’s a Chiefs and Raiders game because we have some fighting. The Chiefs and Raiders went at it after Marcus Peters hit Derek Carr late and then Marshawn Lynch was ejected after making contact with an official while apparently trying to protect Peters.

This started because Peters hit Carr late. At least it looked late to me when watching it but I don’t know when the whistle actually blew it dead. Chiefs DE Allen Bailey was taking Carr to the ground on a play that looked to be about over. Peters came in and hit Carr as he was going down (again, I didn’t hear a whistle). They flagged Peters for that late hit.

The two teams started pushing and shoving after the Raiders players came to Carr’s defense. Marshawn Lynch then CAME RUNNING FROM THE SIDELINES and made contact with an official. It looked like he was pushing Peters back at one point like he wanted him to stay away from it. He and Peters have a longtime history in Oakland together. Was he protecting Peters?
