Earlier in the week I saw comments from a number of Eagles fans wishing they had Andy Reid back. You never know what you've got 'til it's gone eh?

Reid has been historically good for this franchise. The last time the Chiefs had three consecutive winning seasons was from 1995 to 1997 under Marty Schottenheimer. That's 18 years ago, folks. All the Reid supporters that stood by him at 1-5 should be proud of themselves. There are still games to be played however, and the Chiefs haven't made the playoffs yet. How Reid and the Chiefs finish these last two games will make or break the season.

Grading Criteria (Points Possible)

Starting Roster (15)

Player Preparedness / Discipline (15)

Offensive Play Calling (30)

Game Altering Decisions (25)

Clock Management (15)

Challenges +/- a range of 5 points.

Starting Roster

With Spencer Ware still somewhat limited from his rib injury, Charcandrick West received the bulk of the carries. Knile Davis did have five carries, but the lion's share of work went to West. This is the best for the team as West has been playing well.

Aside from the RB position, Frankie Hammond is STILL returning punts. I suggested Albert Wilson or Maclin return punts until DAT is healthy. However, Hammond continues to be the starting punt returner. DAT is back at practice this week so he could be returning.

Starting Roster Grade: 13/15

Player Preparedness / Discipline

The Chiefs had six penalties that were upheld and zero turnovers. These are both good numbers. The penalties could be better but six is a fair number.

It's good to note the Chiefs were aware enough to stop a fourth and nine fake punt attempt by the Ravens. If the Chiefs players are taking a break on that play the Ravens punter could have ran for a first down. It was a horrible choice by John Harbaugh but I'll take it.

One play that comes to mind that negatively affects the grade is the hail Mary pass TD the Chiefs allowed at the end of the first half. Consider it a learning experience but the Chiefs defensive backs need to know to knock the ball down in that situation.

Player Preparedness / Discipline Grade: 13/15

Offensive Play Calling

Really Good Cheeseburger of the Week:

Because who doesn't like 29 yard pass plays to Travis Kelce over the middle? I'd like to see the Chiefs take advantage of more Kelce vs LB mismatches. He is much too fast to be covered by a typical LB.

Run/Pass Ratio: 22 run plays, 32 pass plays. 41% run, 59% pass. This once again passes the litmus test of the 40/60 run pass ratio we've been looking for this season.

Third Down Conversion Rate: 5/13 = 38% The Chiefs offense didn't fare so well on third down against the Ravens.

Red Zone TD Rate: 1/1 = 100% The Chiefs scored 34 points and were only in the red zone one time? I guess it helps when your defense scores two touchdowns and your kicker is nailing kicks from 50+.

Screen Play Count: I caught six screen passes during the game.

WR Screen to Maclin with 0:38 left in the 1st quarter - 4 yard gain.

WR Screen to Maclin with 8:58 left in the 2nd quarter - 6 yard gain.

WR Screen to Maclin with 7:32 left in the 2nd quarter - Fumble, recovered by Wilson, 2 yard loss.

Screen pass to Wilson with 3:30 left in the 2nd quarter - 2 yard gain.

Screen pass to Maclin with 12:00 left in the 3rd quarter - 9 yard gain.

Screen pass to Kelce with 10:25 left in the 4th quarter - 7 yard gain.

Eleven percent of Reid's play calls against the Ravens were screen passes. Reid's offense may have been a little screen heavy in this game. The Chiefs gained an average of 4.3 yards per screen play in the game against the Ravens. That being said Reid really can't be held accountable for the Maclin fumble, and that particular play appeared as if it would go for 5 or 6 yards which would greatly improve the average.

Offensive Play Calling Grade: 28/30

Game Altering Decisions

Hey! What do we have here?!?! Reid was actually faced with a tricky decision. It's been a while since he has had to do this!

2nd quarter, 6:14 remaining. 4th and 1 on the 50 yard line. The Chiefs were up 21-7. Reid elected to punt in this situation. At the time when I was watching the game I wanted the Chiefs to go for the jugular and attempt the 4th down conversion. In hindsight I feel Reid made the right call with his defense playing well and his team up by 14 points.

Game Altering Decisions Grade: 25/25

Challenges

If anyone recalls, Reid was too slow to throw the challenge flag on a somewhat questionable call during the game. I can't remember the specific play (I think it was a reception on the boundary). If Reid wants to challenge plays when the opposition is trying to snap the ball quickly, he is going to need to throw the flag faster. I'll deduct one point here.

Week 15 Grade: 93/100

2015 Average Grade: 78.36

Next Week vs the Browns

Next week against the Browns I would like to see...

Keep hitting Kelce deep over the middle. I'd like to see this done with layered pass plays that make LBs have to pick their poison.

If the Chiefs are starting Frank Zombo and Dee Ford as their pass rush duo, the offense will HAVE to be aggressive. Do NOT be conservative in this game. If it's 4th and one in a reasonable spot, go for it. The Browns could score a fair amount in this game without any pressure and/or poor contain on Browns QB Johnny Manziel.

Keep taking care of the ball.

It seems as if the Chiefs have played better on the road this year. Make sure the players are aware of this and come out with a chip on their shoulders for the home crowd at Arrowhead.

What are your suggestions for beating the Browns?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you have a fantastic time with your loved ones. Lastly, I recommend against drinking too much eggnog and rum. It makes for an awful hangover.

So when Jah Reid was given a multi-year extension early last week, it cause quite a bit of ... um ... angst.

There was a lot of debate around here regarding Reid's ability and the wisdom of paying him low-end starter or high-end bench money. Frankly, I agreed with a lot of that sentiment. I hadn't taken the time to review Reid at any point this season, but my eyeball test was telling me he was struggling. So it didn't make a ton of sense to pay decent money for him. That said, I wasn't twisted up in knots about the whole deal either. Kind of a big ball of "meh" for me.

But it makes sense to at least get a bit of a feel for the guy the Chiefs are paying as though they want to compete for the starting job at RT now and in the future. Was my instinct that Reid has been the weak link on the offensive line correct?

The only way to find out is to go back and re-watch the film, quantifying wins and losses on both run and pass plays. I did this against the Ravens to at least get a bit of a sample size quantified. I also focused a little extra attention on the three sacks the Chiefs gave up. If Reid is indeed the weak link, it would stand to reason that at least some of the sacks given up were his fault.

I went in expecting a dumpster fire. Sometimes it doesn't totally suck being wrong.

So about those numbers ... they aren't that bad.

In the past, I've treated 10 percent as kind of the magic number. If an offensive lineman is losing more often than that I get concerned, especially if he isn't winning on a decent percentage of his snaps or if a lot of his neutrals lean more toward a loss than a win.

With Reid, I fully expected at least 9-10 losses in pass blocking. Maybe more. My eye test had told me that Reid had failed on multiple snaps throughout the game and was a major reason the Chiefs gave up pressure against the Ravens.

The thing is, though, that's not what was happening. Reid DID have five losses, and he's absolutely a player who struggles at times against a good speed rush (and once got dumped by a really nice bull rush). He doesn't have great (or even good) lateral movement, and his hips aren't all that flexible. He's half the athlete Eric Fisher is, and it shows out there.

Reid also has a tendency, as both a pass and a run blocker, to get caught leaning on defenders more than he should. This results in him getting caught off-balance at times when defenders use that against him. It's nothing as bad as what I chronicled with LDT earlier in the season, in that Reid is rarely actually taken off his feet. He just gets caught out of position and ends up scrambling.

The thing is, though, Reid SCRAMBLES. If you could quantify effort this chart would look a whole lot better. Reid hustles constantly. If he gets beat he will chuck himself trying to make sure that it doesn't effect the play. He plays until the whistle and is constantly, constantly, CONSTANTLY looking for someone to hit.

I like this. Sees blitz isn't coming, turns inside and knocks rusher to the ground, then goes after him again. Nasty pic.twitter.com/EdytWq1Xmh

For as much as we turn our noses up at Skip Baylessisms regarding "heart" and "grit" and "toughness" or whatever, the simple truth is that a guy who plays his tail off can compensate to an extent for physical limitations. That doesn't mean a player who doesn't have NFL talent can be a star, but it DOES mean a guy who doesn't look to have starter talent when it comes to lateral movement can pull off a solid game by being willing to throw his whole body sideways to get in the way of a defender who has beaten him.

And for the record, it's not like Jah Reid has absolutely horrendous lateral movement. It's just not at, say, the level of a Donald Stephenson. It's sub average, but not brutally so. Reid makes up for in a few ways:

1) As mentioned, he works like crazy. I didn't see a single snap where I thought "Jah could've worked harder there." That almost never happens during these reviews.

2) Reid shows a pretty good punch and some power in his hands. That allows him to slow down or freeze defenders with a good punch or solid grab.

3) Reid's just a big, big dude. When you're 6'7 and 325 pounds, it creates quite an obstacle for edge rushers to run around. Just by nature of being wide and lengthy Reid forces defenders to take the long route to the QB.

Again, none of this is to say Reid is a stud pass blocker. He's not at this point. But he wasn't bad. None of the three sacks by the Ravens were due to Reid getting beat. Two were on Fulton getting beat almost immediately, the third appeared to be a weird busted screen of some kind.

Additionally, several of the quick pressure from Reid's side I had attributed to him getting beat were in fact overload blitzes where Reid was faced with two rushers and, you know, one of him. There's nothing a tackle can do in that situation to prevent at least one guy from getting immediate pressure on the QB. Watching the game I'd blamed a couple of scrambles by Smith on Reid. It looked like I was wrong. It seemed to be an issue of a blitz simply winning the numbers game.

All told, Reid had an OK day protecting Alex Smith. I can't be sure if that's consistent with how it's been all year (as I said, I went into this firmly convinced Reid was the weak spot in pass protection), but for at least this game he wasn't bad.

Where Reid really earns his money, though, is the running game. Reid had multiple wins as a run blocker and this is absolutely his strong suit. And interestingly enough, it's not just as a "mauler." Reid showed the ability to get to the second level and block on more than one occasion, including this beauty on Charcandrick West's touchdown run.

Jah Reid had a really nice cut block on West's TD. Sherman had a great block too. Both necessary for it to be a TD. pic.twitter.com/oakOHmRvqn

Reid is a plus player as a run blocker on the many plays, and very rarely has a play where he hurts the cause. It's far and away his best trait as of right now.

I expected that coming into the film review (hey, I was right about something!). What I didn't expect was for Reid to look OK as a pass blocker, with some tools to build on. With Reid's gigantic frame and strong hands, he could absolutely continue to develop as a pass blocker. He'll need to work on his footwork and pad level, as his heavy feet will leave him behind the curve. However, the strengths he brings can (and often do) compensate for his feet.

Remember when I looked at Jeff Allen as a RT and talked about how ugly he won? Reid could take a lesson from Allen on that. But the potential is there. And I can finally understand why Dorsey and Reid were willing to shell out that contract. I THINK (and as always, this is a guess) they may feel like they're buying low on a guy who can help. He needs to be a little better in pass pro before I'm comfortable with him as the long term answer, but I'm a lot closer than I was an hour ago. The tools are there.

We'll have to revisit this again soon. For now, priority number 1 on the line is to get Allen back in at left guard. A massive amount of problems came from that position Sunday, and having Allen back could have the entire line (and through that, entire offense) looking quite a bit better.

It's that time of the week: the Kansas City Chiefs postgame celebration.

This is quickly becoming my new favorite tradition after a win. Media can walk in there about 10 minutes after the players get into the locker room but by the time we get in there things have calmed down. So I like seeing things when they're not calm.

Last year we saw Justin Houston emerge as a leader during these videos when he would be the one breaking the Chiefs down. This week we see Eric Berry doing that. Hopefully that's a good sign for his future in KC...

The Chiefs, who have the fifth seed in the AFC, are the first team in NFL history to win eight in a row after losing five in a row. The 1970 Bengals had won seven in a row.

Final stats are here.

This game was over in the first half

The Ravens scored 14 points. One of them was a 48-yard Hail Mary at the end of the first half. Truthfully, this game was over in the first half when the Chiefs put up 24 points. The Jimmy Clausen-led Ravens completed some passes against the Chiefs and showed the occasional flash but anyone watching recognized he was not beating this defense.

Chiefs control playoff destiny

Here's what the AFC playoff picture looked like before today's games.

The Chiefs just need to beat the Browns and Raiders and they will be in the playoffs. Their main playoff competitors right now are the Jets and Steelers. The Chiefs can probably win one of the final two and still make the playoffs but that's no guarantee. They are in the fifth seed right now which is the top Wild Card spot.

The Chiefs also have a real shot at the AFC West. The Chiefs need to win out and the Broncos need to lose two of their final three games (Steelers, Bengals, Chargers). The Chiefs would then likely own the AFC West tiebreaker over the Broncos due to a better divisional record.

Rough game for Marcus Peters until...

CBS announcers Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon highlighted earlier in the game that the Ravens were targeting Marcus Peters. It was a bit of a rough day for him. Well that's until Peters went ahead and picked off Jimmy Clausen in the fourth quarter and returned it 90 yards for the touchdown. That sealed the game.

A few plays later? Peters picked off another one.

Chiefs offense efficient enough

The Chiefs offense didn't have its best game but that's also because they didn't have the ball a whole lot. You see, it's tough to run a lot of plays on offense when your defense steals two of your possessions and scores touchdowns on them. Smith was his usual efficient self but didn't spice it up with downfield throws. Charcandrick West had a 38-yard touchdown run in the first quarter but he was bottled up since that carry.

Marcus Peters did it again.

The Kansas City Chiefs CB and the NFL's best defensive rookie stepped in front of a Jimmy Clausen pass and returned it 90 yards for the touchdown. It's the second touchdown for Peters, who took one back off of Peyton Manning in Week 2.

Peters had a rough game overall but this play sealed it. It was a huge play because the Ravens were driving down the field in the fourth quarter. KC's defense had played well enough that the Ravens probably weren't coming back either way but Peters' play sealed the deal.

After the interception ... check out what Peters did:

That is what all-time Raven Ray Lewis used to do. And now Peters is doing it.
