Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown continues working his way back into the lineup after suffering a sternoclavicular joint dislocation in the team’s first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals in their Week 2 matchup this Sunday on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Despite some early optimism regarding a timeline to return pointing to this week, head coach Andy Reid revealed Brown would not practice on Wednesday.
“They all set a little different, so it’s something that has to move to get back into place,” said Reid of Brown’s dislocation. “They all set just a little different and heal [differently] from what I understand; I’m not a physician by any means. They’re all just a bit different. You’re talking just centimeters of it being off can be a problem, so you want to make sure those things are healed — and that they’re actually in the right spots. We’re having him see different people that are experts at that. I don’t think there’s a ton of data on it — especially in our field, here.”
Sounds like Hollywood Brown is not likely to return in Week 2.

He suffered a SC (sternoclavicular) dislocation, likely anterior, which is very painful and could have been life threatening.
This is where the collarbone/clavicle attaches to the sternum.

Reid added that Brown’s work ethic is unquestionable — and the receiver is in good spirits overall.
“He feels like he’s in a pretty good spot,” said Reid. “It’s not him. He would have been out there the last couple weeks if he had a choice. It wouldn’t have been the best decision he made, but you’ve got to trust the doctors here.”
In the meantime, Brown has done what he can to support his teammates in the wide receiver room, which includes Xavier Worthy.
“He’s doing good in his recovery,” Worthy said of Brown on Wednesday. “He’s also a guy, hurt or not, [who is] going to look out for you. He’s going to make sure you’re alright.”
Worthy said Brown even made sure he was hydrated last Thursday night during his breakout game against the Baltimore Ravens.
“It’s good just to have a vet like that look out for the guys,” concluded Worthy.
Reid would not confirm that Brown would absolutely be out on Sunday against Cincinnati, but it certainly sounds like it will be another week.
Initially, Kansas City indicated that Brown’s timeline would mirror Tyreek Hill's when he suffered the same injury in 2019. That no longer appears to be the case.
