Blaine Gabbert took the Kansas City Chiefs into Sofi Stadium and defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 13-12.
It was an incentive-based day for one Chiefs player. Defensive tackle Chris Jones needed just half a sack to secure a $1.25 million bonus. During the first half, he registered a lot of pressures trying to get it — and then in the third quarter, he finally came up with a drive-ending sack.
Defensive end Charles Omenihu played excellent football during December — which has now carried over into January. At the end of an 18-play Los Angeles drive in the first quarter, Omenihu punched the football out of quarterback Easton Stick’s hands. Mike Edwards scooped it up and rumbled 97 yards for the game’s first touchdown.
Kansas City’s left tackle Wanya Morris left the game with a concussion. In the second quarter, right tackle Jawaan Taylor went down with a leg injury — although he was able to re-enter the game after halftime.
