Chiefs-Packers Inactives: Jerick McKinnon is out — but Kadarius Toney is active

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of inactive players for their Week 13 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. As expected, running back Jerick McKinnon (groin) will not play on “Sunday Night Football” — but wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle/hip) will play.

McKinnon was listed as questionable in Friday’s final injury report after missing Wednesday’s practice and being a limited participant on both Thursday and Friday. But on Saturday, the Chiefs downgraded him to out for the game.

On Saturday, Kansas City also elevated practice squad running back Deneric Prince to the active roster. As an elevated player, he will automatically be returned to the team’s practice squad after the game. He is active for the matchup.

Linebacker Nick Bolton was also listed as out on Friday after being a limited participant in all of this week’s practices. While he has been designated to return from the team’s Reserve/Injured list (which allows him to practice with his teammates) he cannot be listed as inactive for the game. This is because he still hasn’t been activated from Kansas City’s Reserve/Injured list to the active roster.

This is the result of a new, somewhat confusing wrinkle in the way teams report injuries. Previously, they were not required to report the participation of players who were designated to return from Reserve/Injured. But since it would be possible for such a player to be activated to the roster before the game, the league decided that teams must now report injuries and participation for all players who are eligible for practice — even if they’re not on the roster.

The Packers have also released their list of inactives. Running back Aaron Jones (knee), cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder), tight end Josiah Deguara (hip) and cornerback Eric Stokes (hamstring) will not play against the Chiefs.

But safety Darnell Savage (calf), wide receiver Jayden Reed (chest), cornerback Robert Rochell (calf), wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (knee), outside linebacker De’Vondre Campbell (neck) and safety Rudy Ford (biceps/groin) will dress for the game.

Jones was listed out on Friday. Alexander and Deguara had all been declared questionable. Stokes (who was on IR) had been listed as doubtful.

Savage was a full participant in all three practices but was declared questionable because he was on the Reserve/Injured list. The Packers activated him on Saturday, so he is available to play on Sunday. The rest of the questionable players on Friday’s report are active for the game.

Green Bay has elevated tight end Henry Pearson and running back James Robinson from the practice squad. Both will dress for the game.
