Mahomes excited for Green Bay debut: ‘If you love football, you love Lambeau Field’

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the iconic Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers for the Week 13 episode of “Sunday Night Football” — and defensive end Chris Jones is looking forward to playing in the league’s second-oldest stadium.

“It’s such a historic field, for all the Super Bowls and the Lombardi — just the history of the field is amazing,” Jones told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m always looking forward to playing in such an environment.”

The list of career “firsts” continues to dwindle for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Texas native remembers watching games at Lambeau while he was growing up — and in his seventh NFL season, he is looking forward to playing his first game there.

“I know it’s going to be a hostile environment,” noted the quarterback. “The fans are going to be loud. It’s going to be a lot like GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is to other teams — like you’re saying.

“I’m excited. If you love football, you love Lambeau Field. I’m excited to get the opportunity to play there.”

Second-year safety Bryan Cook will also be playing in his first game in Green Bay.

“It’s historic for sure,” said Cook. “I’m excited [to] be a young guy — [and] to be able to [get] my feet on that grass and play some ball.”

Sunday will also be a bit of a homecoming for head coach Andy Reid, since he held several offensive coaching positions on the Packers’ staff from 1992 through 1998. Having been a coach on the home sideline at both Lambeau and Arrowhead, Reid has a unique perspective on the two stadiums — and the fans who go to them.

“It’s a lot like Kansas City that way,” Reid said of the Green Bay atmosphere. “They’re passionate about football. And it is a neat environment. We look forward to that challenge of going up there and playing; I know our guys do.”
