The Kansas City Chiefs escaped a big scare on Sunday, handing the Denver Broncos a 34-28 loss to extend their season record to 10-3.
Holding a 27-0 lead (and the ball) with less than four minutes until halftime, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was intercepted on back-to-back drives, handing Denver short fields that quarterback Russell Wilson turned into scoring drives to narrow Kansas City’s halftime lead to 27-14.
Another touchdown drive to open the third quarter brought Denver to within one score. After trading touchdown drives, Mahomes threw his third pick of the game, giving Denver a golden opportunity at the Kansas City 46-yard line with less than five minutes remaining.
But then Kansas City defensive tackle Chris Jones forced a wild throw by backup quarterback Brett Rypien that L’Jarius Sneed intercepted, sealing Kansas City’s win — and its 14th consecutive victory against the Broncos.
