Who is your favorite 2021 Chiefs draft pick?

Former Chiefs linebacker Shawn Barber discussed his on our latest Arrowhead Pride podcast.

On the most recent special on the Arrowhead Pride Podcast Network, former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker and Arrowhead Pride alum joined me to discuss the team’s 2021 draft class.

Shawn also named his favorite pick from the Chiefs’ draft:

Barber: Duke tight end Noah Gray

“Obviously [since I was a] linebacker, you think it would be Nick Bolton — but it’s Noah Gray, because I believe Noah Gray is going to add another tool, another immediate tool to our offense that can create immediate impact. I believe you do only so much defensively to take away Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce — and when you take those two things away, if you have another chess piece — it’s almost like I see him being a second queen if you’re talking about a chessboard. He almost is a second queen. And if you leave Andy Reid too many queens, you have no chance to win. It’s checkmate.”

Sweeney: Oklahoma offensive lineman Creed Humphrey

I like Shawn’s pick in Gray, who projects to be the best No. 2 tight end the Chiefs have had in a long time. However, my pick is Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey. Prior to the NFL Draft, head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach both floated out the idea of Joe Thuney playing center if necessary. The Chiefs also have veteran Austin Blythe and third-year offensive lineman Nick Allegretti as options. But following the selection of Humphrey, Veach changed his tune entirely, stating that now Thuney could stay at left guard, where he was a second-team All-Pro in 2019. I think the Chiefs see Humprey — much like Mitch Morse in 2015 — as a day-one starter at center. If that is indeed the case, Blythe becomes your backup at center and Allegretti can compete with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Kyle Long and maybe even Trey Smith for the right guard position. No matter how it shakes out, the Chiefs will have excellent players at each line position and great players to back them up. I liked the draft as a whole, but Humphrey's positive domino effect on the offensive line makes him my favorite selection of the six.
