The Kansas City Chiefs have made their second selection!
With the 63rd overall pick, the Chiefs took Oklahoma offensive lineman Creed Humphrey on the second night of the 2021 NFL Draft. We have insta-grades from the three members of the Arrowhead Pride Nerd Squad.
Kent: For me, it’s been a wild ride on Creed Humphrey. I didn’t like how he started out his Senior Bowl week in Mobile, AL — often struggling with power and getting walked back into the quarterback. He got better throughout the week and performed admirably. I came around more through the process. He tested as one of the best centers ever. He’s being put into a phenomenal situation next to Joe Thuney and Kyle Long. He’s well-positioned to succeed from Day 1. There’s a lot of experience — and plenty to develop. Solid pick.
Grade: B
Craig: Creed Humphrey is the final piece of the Chiefs’ offensive line to get a major asset dedicated to it this season. Brett Veach saw a need — and aggressively attacked it through free agency, trades and the draft. Humphrey is extremely athletic — something we know that Andy Reid has coveted in his centers in Kansas City. While he may take a bit of time to adjust to NFL-level power on the inside, he’ll likely be an immediate starter next to Joe Thuney and Kyle Long or Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
Grade: B-
Matt: Coming into this day, this was the pick I feared the most. Creed Humphrey is the perfect blend of quality play, NFL hype — and relatively ho-hum play across the board. He would make too much sense to a team that values athleticism and high IQ at the position — which led me to the fear that the Chiefs would continue to pump capital into the interior offensive line even after bringing in multiple free agents and sinking a fair amount of value into it. Humphrey’s only glaring hole is handling power when it’s directly over him, but there isn’t an overwhelming trump card going the other way. He absolutely makes the Chiefs better; they’re getting a quality center for their roster. But for me, the value — and the value that was passed over — will always be a sticking point for this selection.
Grade: D+
