ESPN’s Adam Schefter sent the NFL world into a frenzy on Thursday afternoon — hours before the start of the first round of the NFL Draft — when he reported that quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not want to return to the Green Bay Packers.
Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 29, 2021
More on NFL Live now....
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones both tweeted shortly after Schefter broke the story.
Well i see draft weekend is going to be pretty interesting...— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) April 29, 2021
But the Chiefs’ potential involvement in the Rodgers story does not end there, as Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio added his own wrinkle, including two AFC West teams — the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders — on a shortlist of possible trade destinations.
From unimpeachable source: As of last night, Aaron Rodgers’ wish list was 49ers, Broncos, Raiders (not necessarily in that order). He wanted Packers to take the 49ers’ offer. Next move by Rodgers is TBD.— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) April 29, 2021
The 49ers were reported to have reached out to the Packers about Rodgers earlier on Thursday, but it never got to the point of a trade being offered. Rodgers himself reportedly thought he was headed to San Francisco.
Football fans were due to finally get the Mahomes-Rodgers matchup in 2021 after Mahomes was unavailable to play because of injury when Kansas City and Green Bay last met up in the regular season back in 2019.
If Rodgers were traded to Denver or Las Vegas, the NFL would see Mahomes-Rodgers twice a year for the foreseeable future.
Where will Aaron Rodgers play quarterback in 2021?
