NFL Draft 2021: start time, schedule, online streaming, picks, order and more

Welcome to Draft Day 2021!

What a difference a year makes. One year ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were picking last in the NFL Draft for the first time since 1970 — and or the first time ever, the draft itself was conducted 100% virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, the Chiefs’ normal picks will be next-to-last — and the draft will once again be conducted in a sort-of-normal way: on a stage in Cleveland, Ohio. Although there will be some limits on the number of people who can participate, team staffs will once again be allowed to gather in their war rooms.

In another change from a year ago — when ESPN and NFL Network cooperated on a joint broadcast spread among multiple studios — the two networks will go back to covering the draft separately. ABC will also offer separate coverage on Thursday and Friday night and carry the ESPN coverage on Saturday. All of the ABC broadcasts will be carried locally by KMBC/9.

Rich Eisen, Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis will anchor NFL Network’s coverage, while Mike Greenberg, Mel Kiper Jr. and Louis Riddick will be at ESPN’s anchor table. ABC’s Thursday and Friday coverage will feature Rece Davis, Maria Taylor and Kirk Herbstreit.

NFL Network coverage will be available across multiple devices through the NFL app or NFL.com/watch — and the NFL Network App on smartphones and tablets for subscribers of participating NFL Network providers. Internet streams will also be available through FuboTV and ESPN.com.

ESPN Desportes will also provide their own exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the draft. Audio-only coverage will also be available through SiriusXM, Westwood One and ESPN Radio.

Schedule

• Round 1: Thursday, April 29 (7 - 10:30 p.m. Arrowhead Time)
• Rounds 2 and 3: Friday, April 30 (6 - 10:30 p.m. Arrowhead Time)
• Rounds 4 - 7: Saturday, May 1 (11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Arrowhead Time)

Draft picks

For this draft, there will be 259 picks. A total of 37 compensatory picks are being awarded — 33 picks following the end of the third through sixth rounds, plus four additional selections at the very end of the third round that are being given as a result of the NFL’s new minority hiring policies. Two teams — the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings — have forfeited selections for violating league rules.

Chiefs 2021 selections

The Chiefs received two compensatory selections for this draft, originally giving them a total of eight picks after they had traded away their 2021 sixth and seventh-round picks and gained a sixth-round pick. Last Friday, the Chiefs traded their first, third and fourth-round picks — along with their fifth-round selection in 2022 — to the Ravens for tackle Orlando Brown Jr., their second-round pick and their sixth-round 2022 selection.

That left the Chiefs with the following six picks:

• Second round (58th overall)
• Second round (63rd overall)
• Fourth round (compensatory — 144th overall)
• Fifth round (175th)
• Fifth round (compensatory — 181st overall)
• Sixth round (from Steelers through Dolphins — 207th overall)
