UFC middleweight Julian Marquez made local and national headlines last week when he cut a WWE-style promo after winning his matchup against Sam Alvey by way of submission in the second round.

In the post-fight conversation, the Kansas City native called out Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill — challenging them to pickleball or badminton. Mahomes, who is recovering from offseason turf toe surgery, tweeted he needed a couple of weeks.

Kelce suggested playing at Chicken N Pickle in North Kansas City — and Hill added that he was down to compete.

TMZ provided some new context on Wednesday, having more recently spoken to Marquez.

“I’ve actually been talking to Travis Kelce, he’s 100% down,” Marquez told TMZ. “The Kansas City Chiefs are 100% down. The local Kansas City fans are 100% down, and that’s all we need. We just gotta figure out the right times for us all.”

Marquez added that he wants to wait for Mahomes to make a full recovery so he does not have an “excuse,” and he believes Kelce should provide the greatest on-court challenge of Chiefs’ dynamic trio.

“There would be a lot of trash-talking, a lot of jokes. Maybe a couple dances. We’ll probably TikTok it out, but I’m just saying, I hope he comes with that same energy he brings on the field.”
