Kansas City Chiefs - Otis Taylor, WR

We’re continuing our run of receivers with Taylor, whose game went through a seamless transition after the Chiefs moved from the AFL to the NFL following the 1970 league merger. Fittingly, in the final game played before the merger, Taylor made the game-breaking play, as his 46-yard touchdown reception sealed the Chiefs’ victory over the Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Taylor made an even greater play against the Raiders in that year’s AFL Championship Game. With the score tied in the third quarter, and with the Chiefs facing a third and long just outside their own end zone, Kansas City quarterback Len Dawson found Taylor for a 41-yard gain. The play helped set up the Chiefs’ go-ahead touchdown. Simply put, Chiefs fans grew accustomed to seeing those type of exploits from Taylor, a multiple All-Pro who led the NFL in receiving yards in 1971.

With interior offensive linemen Mike Remmers, Austin Reiter, Kelechi Osemele, and Daniel Kilgore all set to hit free agency this spring, the Chiefs need to restock the shelves and get stronger at the position. Davis is a reliable pass blocker who’d help keep Patrick Mahomes clean in the pocket, and he’d provide a nice boost to the team’s rushing attack.

Travis Kelce is the clear best player at the position, but he’ll be 32 midway through the 2021 season, so it’s hard to say how much he’s got left in the tank. Tony Gonzalez had his last 1,000-yard season as a 32-year-old, but he also had at least 850 yards and seven touchdowns in each year from his age-35 through -37 seasons, so selling high wasn’t necessarily the right call there. On the other hand, Rob Gronkowski’s last elite season came at 28, while Antonio Gates took a step back around age 30 as well, despite being a solid option for another half-decade. We haven’t seen any signs of decline from Kelce, but you can’t rank him as the No. 1 option at the position when he might be a year away from being washed up. Father time is undefeated.

Eagles agree to trade QB Carson Wentz to Colts for two draft picks | NFL.com

The Eagles agreed to trade Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-rounder, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Thursday, per a source informed of the situation.

The 2022 conditional second-round pick becomes a first-round selection if Wentz plays 75 percent of the snaps in 2021, or 70 percent and the Colts make the playoffs, Garafolo added.

Beyond that, though, Colbert was lukewarm in his assessment of the franchise quarterback’s future with the organization.

“As we sit here today, Ben is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Colbert said. “... He reiterated that to us that he wants to continue to play, and we told him quite frankly we have to look at this current situation. ... With Ben’s current cap number, some adjustment will have to be made.”

Does this mean that Watt would consider the Kansas City Chiefs as a good landing spot? It’s certainly possible. But a better question might be whether the Chiefs would consider Watt — who will be 32 when the season begins — as a good fit for them.

And then there’s the money. Watt’s reported priorities notwithstanding, there are other teams that will have more to spend in free agency. While it’s possible the Chiefs could make moves that could give them enough cap space to make a deal with Watt, would they consider that a good use of their financial resources? Or would they prefer to use them on younger players?
