Britt was involved in a multi-vehicle accident last Thursday night and is currently under investigation for driving impaired. A 5-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
The Chiefs announced in a statement Tuesday evening that Britt, who had been on the Chiefs’ staff in various roles since Andy’s arrival in 2013, had been placed on administrative leave. A day later, he is no longer an employee.
The NFL released a statement on the matter earlier on Wednesday.
“Our primary concern is for the young girl, her family, and the others who were injured. The matter will be reviewed under the NFL’s personal conduct policy. We will continue to monitor developments and when law enforcement has completed its review we will address this matter and take any appropriate action.”
The Kansas City Police Department outlined the process of their investigation on Tuesday. The KCPD has said “accident reconstruction can take between 30 and 60 days to be complete.” Andy addressed the situation in a statement after Super Bowl LV.
“I know I haven’t had a chance to address you since the accident happened that my son was involved in,” said Reid after the loss. “My heart goes out to all those that were involved in the accident, in particular, the family with the little girl who’s fighting for her life. And listen, it’s a tough situation. I can’t comment on it any more than what I am here, so the questions that you have, I’m going to have to turn those down at the time, but just from a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for everybody involved in that.”
