AP staff NFL preview and predictions for Week 9

The Chiefs host the Packers during Sunday’s late games — but we’re picking all of Week 9’s NFL matchups.

Week 9 of the NFL season kicks off with the New York Jets (2-5) on the road against the Indianapolis Colts (3-5) on Thursday Night Football.

The Kansas City Chiefs (4-4) will host the Green Bay Packers (7-1) during Sunday’s late games. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 p.m. Arrowhead Time. The Chiefs are favored to win by 7.5 points. according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Elsewhere in the AFC West, the Las Vegas Raiders (5-2) will travel to the Big Apple to play the New York Giants (2-6) and the Dallas Cowboys (6-1) will host the Denver Broncos (4-4). Both games will be played during Sunday’s early schedule. The late games will include the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) on the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles (3-5).

Other games of interest in the early slate include an AFC North matchup in which the Cleveland Browns (4-4) will travel across the state to play the Cincinnati Bengals (5-3). Another matchup will feature the Carolina Panthers (4-4) hosting the New England Patriots (4-4).

The other late game will have Arizona Cardinals (7-1) in northern California to play the San Francisco 49ers (3-4).

Sunday Night Football will feature a big matchup: the Los Angeles Rams (7-1) playing host to the Tennessee Titans (6-2). Then on Monday Night Football, there’s a storied NFC North rivalry: the Chicago Bears (3-5) against the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) from Heinz Field.

14 games will be played in Week 8. The Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Football Team will all have their bye weeks.

In Week 8, Matt Stagner led the staff with an 11-4 record on his head-to-head picks, followed by Jared Sapp at 9-6-0. Against the spread, John Dixon’s selections led the way at 11-4-0, while Matt’s came in at 10-5-0. Pete Sweeney and Jared both went 11-4-0 on their over/under picks, followed by Ron Kopp at 9-6-0. Overall, Matt finished 29-16-0 to lead the staff, with Jared right behind at 28-17-0.

Among 328 Tallysight experts, Matt’s straight-up picks ranked fourth in Week 8. John came in third against the spread, while Matt was 20th. Pete and Jared ranked fifth and sixth in over/under. Overall, Matt was ranked fourth — while Jared came in 18th.
