The Game
For Week 4 of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the road to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon (Arrowhead Time) on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on CBS — locally on KCTV/5.
After three games, neither team is where it wants to be. Both won their season openers but have dropped the two games since then. On Sunday, the defending AFC champions lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 30-24 after Patrick Mahomes was intercepted on the team’s next-to-last drive, while the Eagles had to endure a 41-21 beatdown by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — who had never lost a game or given up an interception during September — broke both streaks in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. But Mahomes has still posted a solid passer rating of 111.7 through three games, which ranks eighth in the league.
Meanwhile, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts — entering 2021 as the team’s starter after starting the last four games of the 2020 season — has posted a rating of 99.2 while also rushing for 6.9 yards per attempt on 26 carries. With his 780 yards passing, he’s accounted for 959 yards of Philadelphia’s offense over three games.
For the third straight game, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid will be trying for his 100th regular-season win with the Chiefs. With a victory over Philadelphia — which he led to 130 wins from 1999 through 2012 — he’ll become the first coach in NFL history to lead two different franchises to 100 or more victories.
But Reid insists it shouldn’t be about him.
“We’re there for the business trip part of it and that’s to play good football and take care of the game,” he said on Friday. “That’s why you go there and what this is really all about. It’s not about me.”
The typically self-effacing Reid might actually prefer that people made it about running back LeSean McCoy, who retired from his 12-year NFL career on Friday. Reid was McCoy’s coach during his first four seasons with the Eagles — and also during his next-to-last season, which was with the Chiefs in 2019. During six years in Philadelphia, McCoy gained 9,074 yards from scrimmage and scored 54 touchdowns. He collected another 646 yards, five touchdowns — and a Super Bowl ring — while in Kansas City.
Following his retirement as a member of the Eagles, the team will honor him on Sunday.
“I love the kid,” Reid told reporters. “He’s got a big personality and [was] always smiling — and was a great player. Not too many people could make somebody miss like he could. He had this phenomenal career — arguably a Hall of Fame career. It’s good that they’re doing that for him there. It’s good that he chose to go back to Philadelphia — because that’s really where it all started for him, and his foundation was built.”
