Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided updates to three of his players before the team began their first practice Thursday in advance of playing the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
Reid said that linebacker Anthony Hitchens and defensive linemen Chris Jones and Khalen Saunders would miss the workout. Hitchens is continuing to deal with a tricep contusion, — and with the team opting to protect linebacker Darius Harris on Wednesday, he is likely to be out for his second straight game.
Even though Reid said that Jones tweaked his groin after the team’s 27-3 loss to the Tennesee Titans, the head coach said his reason for missing practice Thursday was personal. Reid added the team expects Jones back in Kansas City on Friday night. Saunders had some swelling to his knee, so the Chiefs are giving him the day off but are optimistic about his chances of being available on Monday.
This means that fullback Mike Burton, who missed the game against the Titans due to a pectoral issue, is expected to return to the practice field on Thursday.
The Chiefs’ initial official injury report for Monday Night Football will be released to the public sometime on Thursday afternoon.
