It’s officially Kansas City Chiefs game week!
We are mere days away from the Chiefs’ Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans, giving all of us actual football to discuss. With that in mind, I reached out to Brett Kollmann — host of The Film Room on Youtube — to talk about his beloved Texans and this Week 1 clash.
Brett is not just a Texans fan; he also breaks down film and is knowledgeable about many teams in the NFL — the Chiefs included.
He broke down Mitchell Schwartz and what makes him so good in an excellent video last month, for instance. That made Brett the perfect guest for a special edition of the AP Laboratory podcast this week to lead into the Chiefs game against the Texans.
We started off with the Chiefs’ playoff game against the Texans and the emotions he felt through the building lead and the eventual collapse. We then turned to Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s addition to the Chiefs’ roster and Brett’s visceral reaction to Kansas City landing the rookie running back.
BRETT: “We said, ‘What’s our worst case scenario for where Clyde Edwards-Helaire could go?’ We both looked at each other and said ‘Kansas City. Do you remember when Andy Reid had Brian Westbrook? Well, this is going to be worse [for us].’ And then it happened and I lost my mind...[Houston] has nobody that can cover Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Nobody.”
Those are strong words from a fan of an AFC challenger to the Chiefs throne, even calling it a “nightmare scenario” and saying that “no other player fit the Chiefs in the entire draft better than Edwards-Helaire.” He certainly expects big things from the rookie running back in 2020 and beyond.
After discussing the 2020 Texans outlook, we switched to Thursday night to discuss where both teams could find some success and what they might do to try to stop each other. We talked game plans, who would match up best against whom in both secondaries and got Brett’s game prediction.
It was a great interview with some good X’s and O’s talk, so click here and get ready for the Week 1 matchup!
