The Game

The Kansas City Chiefs face the Baltimore Ravens at M & T Bank Stadium in one of the season’s most-anticipated games, broadcast nationally on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. Arrowhead Time. The game will be carried locally on KMBC-TV/9.

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the game will be played without fans.

Both teams come into the game 2-0 following road victories in Week 2. The Chiefs are coming off a 23-20 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Chargers, while the Ravens handled the Houston Texans 33-16.

Both teams are led by NFL MVP quarterbacks. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the award in 2018 after leading his team to the brink of an AFC Championship, becoming only the second player in league history to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in the same season. In 2019, the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson won the award after leading the league in passing touchdowns and leading the Ravens to a 14-2 record and the AFC’s first seed.

The two head coaches know each other very well. Chiefs coach Andy Reid is now in his 22nd season as an NFL head coach — his eighth in Kansas City. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh became special teams coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1998 — and was one of four assistant coaches Reid retained when he became Eagles head coach in 1999. Harbaugh remained with Reid and the Eagles until be became Baltimore’s head coach in 2008.

The Chiefs have made the playoffs in all but one of the seven seasons in which Reid has coached the team, while Harbaugh has led the Ravens to the postseason in eight of his 12 seasons in Baltimore. Both coaches have won a Super Bowl with their current teams — and in both cases, won their those games after losing the AFC Championship game in the previous season.
