13th practice day: new starter sits out, while another comes back

Just one training camp practice remains on the schedule.

On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs ran their 13th full practice of 2020’s training camp schedule — the last at the team’s practice facility — leaving only Saturday’s final session, which will be held in Arrowhead Stadium before 5,000 season-ticket holders.

On Thursday, the Chiefs signed former Miami Dolphins center Daniel Kilgore — a ten-year NFL veteran — to their roster. That now appears to be an opportune move, because starting center Austin Reiter was held out of practice with a knee injury on Friday. The extent of Reiter’s injury is not yet known.

But starting defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi — who has been nursing an ankle this week — was back on the practice field, along with reserve wide receiver Gehrig Dieter (groin) and rookie defensive lineman Mike Danna (via Kansas City Star).

Per Chiefs Digest, defensive end Alex Okafor (calf), undrafted rookie offensive lineman Yasir Durant (head) and tight end Deon Yelder (groin) all missed another day of practice. Yelder has missed every one of the training camp’s padded practices.

Offensive lineman Martinas Rankin — still on the team’s physically-unable-to-perform list — also didn’t see the practice field on Friday.

Following practice, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, defensive end Frank Clark, cornerback Rashad Fenton and punter Tommy Townsend are expected to speak with the press in a Zoom call.
