Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu may have broken the golden rule of nicknames (you aren’t supposed to be able to nickname yourself) during the team’s 2019 title run, but the one he came up with — “The Landlord” — stuck.
Mathieu proved time and time again that NFL quarterbacks owed him rent en route to a double All-Pro season. Now he has turned that nickname into a reality show in partnership with Bleacher Report.

Mathieu was raised in the New Orleans area, attending St. Augustine High School.
In a surprise Zoom call with each family, Mathieu brightens their spirits before breaking the news that he will be taking care of one month’s rent. Zelle matches Mathieu’s efforts with another month’s rent.
On the field, “The Landlord” collects the rent. Off the field, he pays it.
