In a Monday tweet, Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu revealed the Chiefs players he considers to be the best in franchise history.
Perhaps he drew some of his inspiration from the Ranking The Chiefs series we’ve been publishing every Saturday over the last couple of months.
But we also know that it started with this tweet.
That’s cute https://t.co/XeXv0lT0hC

That drew a Twitter response from Chiefs fan George Westlake, who said that after only a single season on the team, Mathieu was already among the franchise’s top three players.
Mathieu disagreed.
No way lol

Mathieu’s picks of Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas and quarterback Patrick Mahomes correspond exactly with the accumulated rankings given by Arrowhead Pride contributors in our series. While Hall of Fame guard Will Shields didn’t make our contributors’ aggregated top five, four of eight Arrowhead Pride writers did pick Shields for their lists: Matt Stagner, Kent Swanson, Ethan Douglas and Matt Lane.
But after we weighted our contributor lists with reader voting on each one, Thomas and Mahomes remained on top — and Shields came in fifth.
This week, Arrowhead Pride readers are submitting their own top five lists — and on Saturday, we’ll publish the accumulated results. So far, it looks like the reader-only Top 5 will look a little different.
And of course, we’re pleased to invite Mathieu to establish his own AP account and submit his list before the Friday deadline — that is, if he hasn’t already done so.
