Chiefs-Dolphins inactives: Tyrann Mathieu will play in Miami

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of inactive player in advance of Sunday’s Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins in Florida. As reported earlier on Sunday, starting safety Tyrann Mathieu will play in the game.

Mathieu had been a surprise addition to Friday’s final injury report, in which he was designated as questionable with a sore hip. After being held out of practice all week, linebacker Damien Wilson (knee) was designated out on Friday. It is expected that second-round rookie Willie Gay Jr. will get the majority of Wilson’s snaps; it seems likely that against Miami, he’ll be in for more plays than he has in any other game this season.

After being out while recovering from an illness in Week 13, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be back against Miami. Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill and rookie offensive lineman Yasir Durant both missed Wednesday’s practice with illnesses, but practiced fully on Thursday and Friday. Both are active for the game.

While a total of 13 Chiefs players appeared on this week’s injury reports, no others missed (or were limited in) any of this week’s practices; the remaining inactives should be considered healthy scratches for the game.

On Saturday, the Chiefs elevated defensive back Chris Lammons and offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski from the practice squad — just as they were last week against the Denver Broncos. Both are active for Sunday’s game. Wisniewski didn’t get on the field in Week 13, while Lammons was in for 76% of the special-teams snaps. Whatever happens on Sunday, they’ll both automatically be returned to the practice squad on Monday. The Chiefs currently have one spot open on the active roster. It will be interesting to see if either player is moved there this week.

The Dolphins have also released their inactives list for the game.

Starting guard Ereck Flowers (ankle) and running back Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) were both held out of practice all week; both had already been designated as out in Friday’s final injury report.

Linebackers Kyle Van Noy (hip) — the team’s defensive signal-caller — and Elandon Roberts (chest) were both held out of Wednesday and Thursday’s practices, contributing only on a limited basis on Friday. Both had been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game — and neither will play.

A long list of Miami players — safety Kavon Frazier (shoulder/ankle), running back Myles Gaskin (knee), wide receiver Jakeem Grant Sr. (back) cornerback Xavien Howard (shoulder), guard Solomon Kindley (foot), running back/wide receiver Malcolm Perry (chest), tight end Adam Shaheen (foot), quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (left thumb), linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (wrist/ankle) and running back DeAndre Washington (hamstring) — were limited participants in both Wednesday and Thursday’s practices, but practiced fully on Friday.

Among those, running back Myles Gaskin was placed on the team’s reserve/COVID list on Saturday. All of the rest are active for Sunday’s game.

The Dolphins elevated two practice squad players as COVID replacements: tight end Chris Myarick and defensive end Tyshun Render. Practice squad running back (and former Chief) Elijah McGuire received a standard elevation for the game. All three will be active — and will return to the Miami practice squad on Monday.
