The Kansas City Chiefs play the New England Patriots in a hastily-rescheduled Week 4 Monday Night Football game at Arrowhead Stadium, after coronavirus infections were discovered in two of the teams’ quarterbacks: Patriots starter Cam Newton and Chiefs practice squad player Jordan Ta’amu.
The Chiefs come into the game 3-0 after a 34-20 road victory over the previously unbeaten Baltimore Ravens on last week’s Monday Night Football. The Patriots stand 2-1 after beating the Las Vegas Raiders 36-20 at home in Week 3.
The Chiefs offense is led by reigning Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has passed for 898 yards and nine touchdowns (and scored another on the ground) over three games, earning a passer rating of 114.3 on the season. That’s fourth-best in the NFL.
Presumed Patriots starting quarterback Brian Hoyer is now on his third stint with the team. Over a 12-year NFL career with six teams, he’s accumulated a record of 16-22 as a starter — but has never started a game for New England. Former Auburn quarterback (and 2019 fourth-round draft pick) Jarrett Stidham is Hoyer’s backup.
In this game, the Chiefs become only the second team to ever appear on Monday Night Football in successive weeks.
