The Game

For Week 6, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the road to face the Buffalo Bills in an unusual late-afternoon Monday game rescheduled from Thursday Night Football. Kickoff it set for 4 p.m. Arrowhead Time. The game will be broadcast on FOX — locally on WDAF/4.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the game will be played without fans.

The Chiefs are 4-1 as they defend their Super Bowl championship, coming off a 40-32 division loss to the Las Vegas Raiders a week ago Sunday. The Bills are also 4-1 after losing to the Tennessee Titans 42-16 on Tuesday.

Two of the league’s top quarterbacks headline the game. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 1,474 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception over five games. Bills signal-caller Josh Allen as accumulated 1,589 yards, 14 touchdowns and three picks so far this season.

But while the Chiefs defense has maintained its standing from the team’s 2019 championship run, the Bills defense has taken a step back. Ranked as the league’s second best after allowing just 16.2 points per game in 2019, it’s now ranked 21st, allowing 28.4 per game.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid — now in his 22nd season as an NFL head coach — will once again be facing one of his former assistants. Bills coach Sean McDermott started his NFL career on Reid’s original staff for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999, eventually serving as defensive coordinator in 2009 and 2010. He then spent six seasons in that position for the Carolina Panthers under Reid prodigy Ron Rivera. He’s in his fourth season as the Bills’ head coach.

Both teams were original franchises of the American Football League, so they have a long history together. Since Reid arrived in Kansas City, the Chiefs are 3-1 against the Bills. In their last meeting — the first between Reid and McDermott as head coaches — the Bills defeated Kansas City 16-10 at Arrowhead Stadium.
