Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!
As always, the Beer of the Week will be presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio between 10 a.m. and Noon Sunday.
Having just gained distribution to Kansas and Missouri in the past year, this week’s Beer of the Week is one of my new favorite double IPAs. Coming off of the east coast, this week’s Beer of the Week is none other than Clown Shoes Space Cake DIPA!
Look familiar? Miracle Mike, the hero on the Space Cake label, is based on this Mike right here, who is pretty miraculous in his own right! pic.twitter.com/SOByWcA2B7

A whopping 9 percent ABV beer, Space Cake DIPA is not one to take lightly. The sweet malt backbone compliments a citrusy hop bitterness, giving way to a slight boozy flavor that will remind you that you’re drinking a big beer. Mosaic and Citra hops give it a slight pineapple flavor without leaving a strong hop bitterness on your tastebuds.
Clown Shoes Beer started in 2009 in Boston, brewing a black IPA with Ipswitch Ale Brewing. The beer was passed around the city to rave reviews, and Gregg Berman collaborated with Dan Lipke to start the brewery. They started distributing outside of Massachusetts in 2011 and were purchased by Mass. Bay Brewing Company to expand their capabilities in 2017.
Clown Shoes Beer prides themselves on their big, boozy offerings with lots of big stouts, DIPAs and barleywines. However, their pale ales, wits, and kolsch brews are all fantastic representations of their styles. They also love to barrel-age their beers in all kinds of barrels — aging in brandy, cognac, bourbon, rum, scotch, and tequila barrels. They also have some of the more “fun” artwork that graces the beer shelves.
If you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Clown Shoes Space Cake DIPA this weekend!
Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
