Patrick Mahomes wins FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week award for Week 2

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week for his sparkling performance in the Week 2 game against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The announcement came after the Chiefs quarterback was named the AFC offensive player of the week for Week 2.

Mahomes completed 30 of 44 passes (with four touchdown passes and no interceptions) while leading the team to a 28-10 victory in Oakland; his passer rating of 131.2 was the second-highest of his short career.

As noted in this week’s excellent Stacking the Box Score FanPost here on Arrowhead Pride, Mahomes’ blistering second-quarter performance in the game had the third-most expected points added in any quarter of any NFL game since 2009.

FedEx will make a $2,000 donation to the USO in Mahomes’ name.

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook was named as the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week for his performance against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Both Mahomes and Cook had been nominated for their games during the NFL’s opening week — but for both, it is their first win of the season.

Mahomes won the FedEx Air award three times during the 2018 season — and was also named the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Year.

Each week during the NFL season, players are nominated to win either the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week or FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week awards based on their performances in the most recent games. Fans then vote for the player they believe had the best air or ground performance.
