The Kansas City Chiefs and KSHB-41 have announced a new broadcast partnership that will put Chiefs preseason games on Kansas City’s channel 41 through 2024.
The deal also means that the Hy-Vee Chiefs Insider program will appear on KSHB-41 (and its sister station KMCI-38) beginning on September 21. Preseason games and the Insider program — owned by the Chiefs’ in-house 65 Toss Power Trap production company — have previously been broadcast on CBS affiliate KCTV-5.
Since it is the network that broadcasts most AFC games, CBS carries most of the Chiefs’ regular-season games. KSHB-41 — as an NBC affiliate — carries regular and post-season Chiefs games only when the team appears on NBC primetime broadcasts.
“The KSHB/KMCI team is thrilled to be the new ‘Home of the Chiefs’ for the next six years,” said Ed Fernandez, vice president of operations for KSHB owner E.W. Scripps. “We’re proud to partner with such an iconic brand to provide avid Kansas City Chiefs fans with great content and additional opportunities across all of our broadcast and digital platforms.”
“This is an exciting time in Kansas City as the club enters its 60th season, and expectations are high throughout Chiefs Kingdom for the 2019 season,” said Chiefs President Mark Donovan. “We are thrilled to begin our new partnership with KSHB and KMCI at this time, and we look forward to next year when they will begin serving as the flagship station of our Chiefs Preseason Television Network.”
Hy-Vee Chiefs Insider will now air Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. on KSHB-41, Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. on KMCI-38 and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. on KSHB-41 — all times Arrowhead Time.
