Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams missed his fifth straight training camp practice on Saturday as he deals with the hamstring injury he suffered last Sunday. After practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that he believes Damien will be back soon but couldn’t say exactly when.

“He’s missed quite a bit,” Reid said. “He’s missed a lot of plays. It’s been great for these other guys.”

The Chiefs confirmed Williams as their starting running back in late May

Carlos Hyde and Darrel Williams have primarily worked with the top team in Damien’s absence, and Darwin Thompson has also been in the mix.

“I’d give myself like a B-plus so far,” Hyde said, “because I always feel like there is room to improve. I’m never satisfied. Every day, I just try and come out and get better. That’s with pass pro, catching the ball, running the ball, just understanding the plays better. Every day I’m just trying to come out and improve, so so far, I give myself a B-plus.”

Safety Jordan Lucas also missed his fifth straight practice with his own hamstring injury. Wide receiver Gehrig Dieter (back spasms) has been absent for the last four practices.

Linebacker Damien Wilson was held out on Saturday due to a sore knee. Wilson’s absence likely won’t be long, according to our in-house injury expert Aaron Borgmann.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman (illness) and defensive lineman Xavier Williams (undisclosed) returned to practice after both missing time on Friday.

The Chiefs resume training camp on Sunday beginning at 8:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time.
