Speaking to the local Kansas City media after practice on Tuesday, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid ruled out five rostered players — wide receiver Gehrig Deiter, quarterback Chad Henne, defensive back Michael Hunter, defensive lineman Breeland Speaks and tight end Deon Yelder — for the team’s fourth and final preseason game Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Reid also detailed Dieter’s status for the first time since noting he had been dealing with “back spasms” early on during training camp at Missouri Western State University in St Joseph.

“He’s getting better,” Reid said of Dieter. “He’s running now, feeling pretty good.”

Reid said that Henne (high-ankle sprain and fracture), Breeland Speaks (right MCL sprain and meniscal) and Marcus Kemp (ACL, MCL and meniscal) all had or were scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday. As explained by Chiefs head trainer (and vice president) Rick Burkholder on Monday, Henne is in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with Dr. Robert Anderson, Speaks is in Houston, Texas, with Dr. Walter Lowe and Kemp is in Dallas, Texas, with Dr. Dan Cooper.

In Henne’s absence, Reid said that newly-signed quarterback Matt Moore would not play; rookie Kyle Shurmur and second-year player Chase Litton will share playing time in the game.
