Only four Kansas City Chiefs — wide receiver Gehrig Dieter, wide receiver Davon Grayson, defensive back Michael Hunter and H-back John Lovett — missed Thursday Chiefs practice, the final workout in St. Joseph for 2019.
Dieter was out for nearly all of training camp with a back injury, and Grayson and Lovett suffered injuries in the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“These guys won’t play,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, referring to Saturday’s matchup in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. “Everybody else will have a chance to potentially play.”
That presumably includes both defensive end Frank Clark and wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who returned to practice on Thursday after recovering from illnesses.
“They got work [Thursday] and did a nice job,” Reid said. “[They] had a little case of the flu—that happens. We were lucky it was only two. Sometimes, the flu bug hits in these camps and we’re in quarantine there together, and so it can be problem. But so far, so good.”
With training camp in the books, the Chiefs will resume their preseason training next week at the team facility in Kansas City. The Steelers host the Chiefs in their second preseason game Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Arrowhead Time.
