Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins was not seen on the practice field in St. Joseph on Wednesday as he deals with an illness, according to the Chiefs’ public relations department.
Defensive end Frank Clark, who missed practice on Tuesday, could be seen on the field without a helmet working off to the side. Chiefs PR said that Clark is “getting better.”
Four other Chiefs — wide receiver Gehrig Dieter, wide receiver Davon Grayson, defensive back Michael Hunter and H-back John Lovett — did not practice. Lovett is currently wearing a sling.
“Injuries—unfortunately it’s a part of the game,” tight end Travis Kelce said after practice when asked about Lovett. “It’s something that you got to get through and you got to deal with mentally and obviously the rehab and the physical aspect of it... [Lovett] is doing well, mentally he’s just got to stay in the playbook and be ready for his opportunity when he gets back out there.”
As correctly predicted by our in-house injury expert, Aaron Borgmann, cornerback D’Montre Wade returned to practice after missing Monday and Tuesday work to start the week. Wade had been working as the team’s fourth cornerback prior to the injury.
The Chiefs resume practice on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time, marking the final day of training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
