Hello Arrowhead Pride!

It's C-B-O. Let's talk about the Kansas City Chiefs!

A lot of things have happened since the Chiefs almost (still hurts) went to the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes has been everywhere. Basketball games. Baseball games. Hockey games. Weddings. Youth camps. OTAs.

You name it. It seems like Showtime has made an appearance.

That in and of itself is a strange (if not Stagner) thing. Only when Joe Montana was the Chiefs quarterback has the position received this much national attention. And really, it's even more with Mahomes -- since there was not much Internet and only like 100 channels when Montana was our quarterback.

It's new, it's unique and it's pretty awesome! I'm love every minute of it!

But how does it make you feel? Does it make you feel like it's the Chiefs' year? Does it feel like Kansas City will win the Super Bowl?

Or are you mad that Tyreek Hill became a huge issue this offseason -- and that with the Chiefs, something always seems to happen?

Are you worried that Chris Jones is not practicing with the team? Does it concern you that the Chiefs may face some crazy injuries, or that Travis Kelce may not be fully healthy and be ready to go? Or that Eric Fisher, Frank Clark, Anthony Hitchens and Sammy Watkins are making entirely too much money?

How much comfort does having Patrick Mahomes give you? Really -- on a scale from one to Super Bowl -- how are you feeling about the Kansas City Chiefs?

I'm a homer. I definitely have my blinders on. I'm the type of fan that has convinced myself the Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl every year -- and I get sad every year when it doesn't happen, too.

However, this year feels different. It feels genuine. It feels like Patrick Mahomes can overcome anything. It feels like the Chiefs will overcome the Hill situation. It feels like Kelce is going to be healthy and put up his best season ever -- not just regarding chugging Coors for the camera -- but in yards, touchdowns and team wins.

I feel like that's definitely going to happen.

I feel like Clark and Hitchens are going to more than justify their contracts. I feel like the rookies are going to do really well! I feel like at least three UDFAs are going to make the team and make an impact in 2019.

I feel like the defense is not only going to improve, but that in some games this season, they're going to dominate --the star of the show with exotic blitzes leading to sacks and turnovers, while the secondary and linebacker units make us wonder why we were ever worried about them in the first place.

Now I feel like writing this: I feel like some chicken tonight -- but we already did that last night. Yep, it was BBQ chicken (of course), and I feel like it was delicious!

The point is I'm hopeful -- but not because I'm always hopeful about the Chiefs, and not because I'm a homer.

I'm hopeful because this team is looking really special. I love that Andy Reid is still our head coach. I love the way that during games, Mahomes runs smiling to him between drives to talk to him on the bench.

I love the coaching additions and subtractions. I love that we have the same offensive coordinator -- that Eric Bieniemy didn't get plucked by another team after Mahomes MVPed last season.

I love that players like Chris Jones and Sammy Watkins think they're going to have their best seasons ever. I love that the Chiefs have players like Austin Reiter and Dorian O'Daniel that are completely underrated.

I love that the Chiefs have two of the best tackles -- right and left -- in the NFL, and that no one really talks about it. Yeah... I said it: Eric Fisher is getting pretty darn good! Schwartz is incredible. Combine those two guys... who's better?

I love the Kansas City Chiefs. I love writing about them. I love talking about them. I can't get enough of watching the games with my family, and I can't wait for this season to begin. It's only early June and I'm already on the edge of my seat -- waiting for kickoff.

Just like many of you, I'm worried. I'm worried that "because, you know, Chiefs" is going to come back with a vengeance and bite us in the Super Bowl. I'm worried that the Chiefs will let all of this slip through their fingers like a pass to Johnnie Morton in the playoffs. I'm worried that hope is going to miss like a kick from Lin Elliot -- and that we'll all walk away from Arrowhead disappointed... wondering how it happened again.

But you know what?

I feel like none of that stupid old worry and fear matters. I feel like the Chiefs have a legitimate opportunity to win the Super Bowl -- even if Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are standing firmly in the way again. I feel like the Chiefs will beat them at Arrowhead or in their own house. I feel like this is really -- truly -- the Chiefs year!
