The NFL annual owners meetings are ongoing this week, and one of the week’s most unique events is called the coaches breakfast.
All 32 head coaches, including Andy Reid and familiar names like (Philadelphia Eagles head coach) Doug Pederson and (Chicago Bears head coach) Matt Nagy, are available in a roundtable, breakfast setting. Reid is usually a popular name even for those reporters outside of Kansas City, as he has many ties that extend to other teams’ coaching personnel.
Here is some Kansas City Chiefs-related news that came out of the breakfast:
12:36 p.m. Arrowhead Time — Matt Nagy likes cheeseburgers, too
Nothing like a cheeseburger to get over a tough playoff loss.
Interesting story at this morning’s #NFL coaches breakfast. HC’s Andy Reid and Matt Nagy consoled each other couple weeks after playoff losses by inches. Nagy said Reid kiddingly told him”let’s just have big juicy cheeseburgers to get over it.”Andy adds the mayo. @SportsRadioWIP

12:36 p.m. Arrowhead Time: Reid is comfortable with his career choices
A reporter: "Did you really think, at one point, you were going to be a sportswriter?"
— Nate Taylor (@ByNateTaylor) March 26, 2019
Andy Reid: “Yeah, there was a point I would’ve.”
Another reporter: "Do you wish you would’ve pursued that career?"
Reid: “No.”
11:58 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Reid says Chiefs could make a big move
Andy Reid makes a habit of deferring all personnel questions to Veach, but he isn’t above dropping a hint now and then.
I asked Andy Reid if he felt Brett Veach would make another big move before the draft.
— Nate Taylor (@ByNateTaylor) March 26, 2019
“You know Brett," Reid said. "He keeps his eyes open on everything & he’s very aggressive. I wouldn’t doubt it. I don’t know who it is, but I wouldn’t put it past him."
11:52 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Reid has seen babies being born
This is a 100 percent Andy Reid quote. Priceless.
Favorite no-context needed quote from Andy Reid this morning:
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) March 26, 2019
"You don’t come out of the womb in a four-point stance. Well, you kind of do. But you don’t stay there very long."
Btw, this was also the second time he said womb at the coaches breakfast.
Later in the day, Pryor revealed the first time Reid had used the word womb in his remarks to reporters.
Asked Andy Reid about this today.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) March 26, 2019
“I come from a woman, a woman’s womb, that was forefront shooter. She was a doctor when there weren’t a lot of women who were doctors. I’m open to anything. If you can coach and you’re good, I don’t really care. I’m all in either way.” https://t.co/cxlnzmoMIz
11:35 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Reid dressed for success
Naturally, Andy Reid is wearing a Hawaiian shirt for the coaches breakfast! Wouldn’t you?

11:17 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Nagy and Reid have bitmojis for each other
Here’s a big scoop: Bears head coach (and former Chiefs offensive coordinator) Matt Nagy and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid have bitmojis for each other. File this as yet another story that never could have been written about NFL head coaches 10 years ago.
Matt Nagy and Andy Reid have their own bitmojis they share with each other. Nagy’s has a beard and a #Bears hat. He showed us Reid’s. It’s him in a Hawaiian shirt with a stack of pancakes.

11:02 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Kitchens fields questions about Kareem
Reporters had a lot of questions for Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens about former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt.
#Browns Freddie Kitchens: “I don’t know why everyone assumes we’re going to trade Duke Johnson just because we signed Kareem Hunt. He’s a good football player”
— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) March 26, 2019
Browns coach Freddie Kitchens on his running back situation after signing Kareem Hunt. Says he spoke with incumbent RB Nick Chubb: “Nick Chubb welcomes the competition. Nick Chubb is the kind of player you want on your football team.”

11:02 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Jon Gruden raves about Mahomes
The Oakland Raiders head coach had a few nice things to say about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the breakfast. (H/T to horsepire for this one).
Gruden really in awe of Mahomes. “Take away every QB’s top 20 throws and he would still have the top 20 throws. We need a lot of DB’s and a lot of aspirin.”

10:54 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Jay Gurden doesn’t know if Alex Smith will play
According to Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, it’s unknown if former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith will play in 2019 after a devastating injury suffered in 2018.
Gruden said he doesn't know whether Alex Smith will be around at all in 2019. "He's all in on his recovery," Gruden said. "That's all I want him focused on right now."

10:45 a.m. Arrowhead Time — Jon Gruden says he cried after trading Mack
Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden told the press that he “cried for three days” after trading pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears, but that deal made it possible for the other big deals the Raiders have made in free agency this spring.
Gruden said he “cried for 3 days after trading Mack. But we’re not able to get Antonio Brown, Trent Brown and Lamarcus Joyner without making that trade.” #Raiders

10:44 a.m. Arrowhead Time: Frank Reich loves him some Houston
Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich raved about his new defensive end — former Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston.
Reich on Justin Houston: “I told him he owes me, because when he got his 22-sack deal, unfortunately I was the off. coord. on the other team when he got his last 4 sacks. We were chippin him, we were double-teamin him. I’ve been dreaming about having him on my side for a while.”

10:33 a.m. Arrowhead Time - Reid hasn’t been in touch with Tyreek Hill
Of course, the media would ask about Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who is reportedly involved in an Overland Park Police investigation relating to an injury reportedly suffered by his son. Reid told Yahoo! Sports’ Terez Paylor that he hasn’t been in touch with Hill, and other than saying the Chiefs don’t know exactly what happened in the alleged incident, he doesn’t have a further statement to make.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid says he has not been in touch with Tyreek Hill. He does not have a further statement on the matter.
— Terez A. Paylor (@TerezPaylor) March 26, 2019
“We’re just letting it take its course. Did I expect it to happen? I don’t know what happened. That’s what they’re trying to figure out.”
