NFL Mock Draft 2019: ESPN Mel Kiper 3.0 Edition

What do you think of the Chiefs’ pick?

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper’s third 2019 mock draft is out. His first two picks for the Chiefs in mocks one and two were safeties Deonte Thompson and Johnathan Abram, respectively. Kiper’s counterpart, Todd McShay, had Deandre Baker for the Chiefs in his third mock draft.

This time Kiper went with a cornerback (ESPN Insider).

29. Kansas City Chiefs Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

With Dee Ford, Justin Houston, Eric Berry and Steven Nelson all gone, the Chiefs’ defense will look different in 2019 under new coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. And Kansas City still has questions at linebacker and the other safety spot next to Tyrann Mathieu. And even after signing Bashaud Breeland on a short-term deal, the team also needs a cornerback. You’ll notice that Williams (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) has dropped a bit; there are questions about his willingness to tackle and about his fluidity in coverage.

The potential Chiefs targets who were off the board when they “picked” included Montez Sweat (No. 8), Rashan Gary (No. 9), Clelin Ferrell (No. 16), Deandre Baker (No. 20), Johnathan Abram (No. 25) and Rock Ya-Sin (No. 27), among others.

Kiper’s pick for the Chiefs makes sense, as they lost starting No. 2 cornerback Steven Nelson to the Pittsburgh Steelers and could use competition for both Bashaud Breeland and Charvarius Ward.
