Kansas City during last season re-signed two interior offensive linemen in Austin Reiter and Cam Erving to help prepare for Morse’s departure. Bears receiver Allen Robinson told the Chicago Sun-Times last week that he believed his teammates would be fine if Chicago signed Hunt, who was a rookie in the 2017 season when Nagy was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator.
‘‘From when I met (him) and everything like that, for us to bring him into our locker room, I think guys would welcome him with open arms,’’ Robinson told Patrick Finley of the Sun-Times. ‘‘He’d be one of us. . . .
Reason One: Revenge is Possible
While playing the Patriots on the road in the regular season for the third straight time is not ideal, it’s still a national TV game for Mahomes and the Chiefs to shine. And also to remind everyone despite what happened in the AFC title game last month, the torch will eventually be passed from Tom Brady to young Patrick.
If the Chiefs are slotted with the tough task of playing in Foxborough seven months from now, know that under Reid, Kansas City is 1-1 in its past two trips to New England, outscoring the Patriots, 82-70.
Not sure anyone expected that to be the case, but a video of Mahomes playing pickup basketball at Life Time Fitness in Overland Park went viral this week. Days later, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said he wants Mahomes to curtail his time of the court.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman scoffed at that idea. Sherman, who is the 49ers’ player representative with the players union, tweeted that Mahomes likely wouldn’t quit playing a game he loves and the Chiefs couldn’t dictate his actions off the court.
One way or another, John Elway has to do something to compete with what the Chiefs have in Patrick Mahomes. Is that going to be Drew Lock? As much as I love Lock, I don’t know that he’s capable of having the same type of impact on a game as Kyler Murray, even considering the significant difference in their size. Murray looks like a future superstar. The Broncos might need a superstar to compete with Mahomes for the next decade or more.

“If I say I’m not going to be patient, you and everybody else will think I’m going to make some knee-jerk short-term decisions that won’t have long-term benefits,” Fangio explained to The Gazette’s Woody Paige. “What we’ve got to do, I believe, is let’s go out there and evaluate this team, find out where we need help. Make some good choices for the future, not just for today, if I’m making sense. I’m not looking to go 4-12 or 5-11, thinking that we’re rebuilding. But we must realize that two years from now, three years, that what we did in the 2019 season was why we are at that point.”
After trading away Mack, the Raiders struggled their way to 13 sacks...in 16 games. Impressively bad, really, and while the team could use the fourth pick to help in this area, one name isn’t going to be enough to fix this issue unless they stumble upon Mack 2.0.
Again, Gruden running things means it could get wild, too. With so much space and so many needs, the team throwing a massive one-year deal at someone like Earl Thomas isn’t out of the question. While they might not rank first here, odds seem strong the Raiders will be the most entertaining team in free agency.
“I think the words were, ‘You’ve crossed the line,’” Costas told ESPN. “My thought was, ‘What line have I crossed?’”
The young signal-caller was one reason Monken turned down other opportunities to join a Cleveland team in which he won’t call plays. Even for a defensive play-caller like Wilks, the quarterback is important.
”You can’t win in this league without a quarterback,” Wilks said. “And we have a quarterback. He’s an alpha male and affects the whole team.”
His role is going to change and we spoke to Mike over the past couple days and he’s going to move over and assume a league role along with Hines Ward in player development. That’s the best place for him.”
Vick’s role had already started to shift. He will now work with player development and player welfare. He will remain in an “off-the-field” role in Atlanta, but he won’t be coaching this season for the Legends. Fisher said discussions about a changed role for Vick happened over the “last couple of days.”
His helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead in the first quarter drew a penalty for 15 yards, unlike his infamous helmet-to-helmet hit on New Orleans Saintsreceiver Tommylee Lewis at the end of the NFC Championship Game.

After initial reports said that the Chiefs were expected to bring Matt House aboard as their new linebackers coach, House has elected to remain at Kentucky.
Daly, 43, has been the Patriots defensive line coach since 2015 and served as a defensive assistant the season before that. He was the defensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2012-13, and he served in that same capacity for the Los Angeles Rams from 2009-11 under head coach — ready for this? — Steve Spagnuolo.
Writers for Sports Illustrated’s MMQB went through an interesting exercise on Friday: predicting which NFL teams will win Super Bowls in the next five years.
The most popular answer they gave? The Kansas City Chiefs.
Ten MMQB writers made predictions: Mitch Goldich, Gary Gramling, Jonathan Jones, Kalyn Kahler, Robert Klemko, Bette Marston, Mark Mravic, Conor Orr, Tim Rohan and Jenny Vrentas. Eight of the ten — all but Marston and Orr — predicted the Chiefs will win at least one Super Bowl in the next five seasons. Of those who did, all but Klemko and Mravic thought the Chiefs would win two Super Bowls.
Gushing about the flexibility, fit, and potential impact of the other players on the defensive line — and then going with “Spagnuolo needs to take a look at these guys so we can look at the cap” for Ford and Houston — tells me that the team is evaluating both of these players, and potentially moving on from one of them.
