Chiefs beat Bears 26-3: Complete game summary

The Chiefs advance to 11-4 on the season on the road in Chicago

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Chicago Bears 26-3 in a Sunday Night Football matchup at Soldier Field.


OFFENSE


First half

First drive: The Chiefs first play of the game was an incomplete pass from Patrick Mahomes. After a short run from Spencer Ware, the Chiefs were able to convert on third down with a 17-yard completion to Sammy Watkins. An 11-yard pass to Demarcus Robinson and a short scramble form Mahomes put the Chiefs into Bears territory. After a false start penalty and a sack from Khalil Mack, the Chiefs faced third-and-18, converting with a 19-yard pass to Tyreek Hill. A 6-yard run from Hill put the Chiefs into field goal range. After an incomplete pass, the Chiefs had a third down, but converted thanks to an offsides penalty. On the next set of downs, Mahomes scrambled for a 12-yard touchdown on third down. Second drive: The first play of the drive was a 3-yard run from Ware. A roughing the passer penalty and a 6-yard run from Ware put the Chiefs into Bears territory. After a short run from Damien Williams and an incomplete pass, the Chiefs couldn’t convert on third-and-9. Harrison Butker kicked a 56-yard field goal. Chiefs 10, Bears 0

Third drive: The drive started with a 5-yard run by Williams. Mahomes then completed a 13-yard pass to Travis Kelce. Mahomes hit Hill twice for 13 and 15 yards, but then consecutive penalties backed the Chiefs out of Bears territory. A short pass to Williams for 12 yards gave the Chiefs third-and-16, and a 12-yard completion to Kelce gave the Chiefs fourth-and-4. The Chiefs decided to punt, but a roughing the kicker penalty extended the drive. Mahomes completed a 5-yard pass to Kelce, and a 9-yard run from Williams put the Chiefs in the red zone. A 13-yard pass to Kelce gave the Chiefs goal-to-go, and a 6-yard catch from Kelce gave the Chiefs the score. Chiefs 17, Bears 0

Second half

Fourth drive: The first play of the half was a 2-yard run from Williams. Mahomes then completed a 13-yard pass to Kelce. After a short run from Williams and a short catch by Blake Bell, the Chiefs faced third-and-5 and were unable to convert, forcing a punt.

Fifth drive: The Chiefs started the drive with a 12-yard run from Williams. But after a short run and an incomplete pass, the Chiefs couldn’t convert a third-and-8 when Bell dropped a pass. The Chiefs punted.

Sixth drive: Hill started the drive with a 19-yard reception. After an incomplete pass and a short run, the Chiefs converted a third down with an 18-yard completion to Ware. An 11-yard pass to Kelce put the Chiefs into the red zone, but to short runs gave the Chiefs third-and-8. Mahomes converted with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Williams. Butker missed the extra point when the ball bounced off the left crossbar and then the right. Chiefs 23, Bears 3

Seventh drive: The Chiefs started the drive with runs of five and eight yards from Williams. Mahomes completed an 11-yard pass to Watkins to put the Chiefs into field goal range, and a couple of runs from Darwin Thompson put the Chiefs into the red zone. The Chiefs ended the drive with three straight runs from Thompson and settled for a field goal. Chiefs 26 Bears 3

Eighth drive: The Chiefs kneeled down to end the game


DEFENSE


First half

First drive: The Bears started the game with two designed runs to quarterback Mitch Trubisky for a total gain of six yards. On the next play, running back Tarik Cohen was able to get the first down with a 6-yard run. After nearly throwing an interception to Tyrann Mathieu, Trubisky ran for a five yards and then eight yards to get a first down. After a fumbled handoff and a short run, Trubisky was sacked by Frank Clark, forcing a Bears punt.

Second drive: The first play of the drive was a 2-yard run from David Montgomery. After an incomplete pass, Juan Thornhill made the tackle on a screen pass on third down to force a three-and-out.

Third drive: Trubisky completed a 9-yard pass to Allen Robinson to start the drive. After the Bears drove 30 yards in five plays, Mathieu made a third-down tackle force a punt

Fourth drive: Robinson began the drive with an 18-yard catch. With the clock winding down to the half, the Bears spiked the ball and then threw a short pass to give them third-and-5, but a false start penalty gave them third-and-long. The half ended with an 11-yard completion from Trubisky.

Second half

Fifth drive: The Bears started the drive with a couple of runs from Montgomery for a combined 17 yards. After a short run from Montgomery and an incomplete pass, the Bears converted a third-and-4 with a 13-yard pass to Robinson. Another 7-yard catch put the Bears in Chiefs territory. A 16-yard run from Montgomery put the Bears into field goal range, while a 16-yard run from Cordarrelle Patterson gave them goal-to-go. But after a short run and an incomplete pass, Thornhill stopped Trubisky on third down. On fourth down. Charvarious Ward broke up a would-be touchdown pass to Robinson to give the Chiefs possession.

Sixth drive: After nearly forcing a three-and-out, the Chiefs helped the Bears convert with a roughing the passer penalty from Chris Jones. After a run for no gain and a dropped pass, the Bears faced third down again and were stopped short, forcing them to settle for a field goal. Chiefs 17, Bears 3

Seventh drive: The Bears started the drive with an offensive holding penalty to push them back 10 yards. Trubisky completed a 20-yard pass to get the long first down. The Chiefs defense was called for three straight penalties, moving the Bears 21 yards and giving them a foothold in Chiefs territory. Chris Jones sacked Trubisky fpr 13 yards to push the Bears back across the 50-yard line, forcing them into fourth and long — and an eventual turnover on downs.

Eighth drive: The Bears drove 39 yards in nine plays, but the drive ended with a turnover on downs


SPECIAL TEAMS


Harrison Butker missed an extra point in the fourth quarter.


INJURIES


Spencer Ware suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter, and was listed as questionable to return.
