Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!
As always, the Beer of the Week will be presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio. This week’s show will happen between 1:25 p.m. and 3:25 p.m. on Sunday.
It’s a home game this week, which means I’m featuring a local brewery that deserves your attention. I was pleased to visit Kansas City’s Crossroads recently, so it’s my pleasure to introduce this week’s Beer of the Week: Casual Animal Brewing Peanut Butter Stout!
GO CHIEFS! Watch the game with us tomorrow and score a $1 Swifty beer for every #Chiefs TD! #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/KMnuxsNXRr

A 5.2% ABV Stout, this beer is smooth enough to drink all day long and low enough ABV to get away with it. Strong peanut butter flavors blend well with the smooth body of the beer, and the creamy nitro finish just helps accentuate the fact that you’re drinking a sweet — but not too rich — well-made stout.
Casual Animal Brewing is located in Kansas City’s Crossroads district. Kyle and Lara Gray founded the brewery in 2018 after moving to Kansas City from one of the biggest “beer cities” in the world — Fort Collins, Colorado. Kyle grew up in the area and is a lifelong Chiefs fan, resulting in some fantastic specials on game day. Every time the Chiefs score a touchdown, Casual Animal’s pours reduce in price to just $1. With Patrick Mahomes running the Chiefs offense, you could spend all day at the brewery and get out of there on the cheap.
It was my pleasure to speak with Kyle about his brewery and his Chiefs fandom this week!
CS: What made you want to start brewing beer?
KG: It started with the flat out love of beer. I worked at a brewery in college and from there wanted to learn all about the process that brought this great beverage from grain to glass. I got so into brewing beer at home that I gave up my day job to attend brewing school in Vermont, The American Brewers Guild, where I eventually became a certified brewer.
CS: What drew you to Kansas City’s beer community?
KG: The KC beer and brewing community is great. The vast majority of folks are supportive, eager to try new beers, and in general, very welcoming. I think people are sincere and friendly, so whether you have a technical question about brewing or you just want to have a couple pints and talk football, you don’t have to look to hard to find what you need here in Kansas City.
CS: What is your most memorable Chiefs win?
KG: The most memorable game I’ve attended was from a few years ago when we crushed the Patriots on Monday Night Football. The Chiefs were in their all-red uniforms, which look badass. It was really cool to be apart of the crowd that set the Guinness world record for loudest stadium! It was an extra cherry on top that it all happened against the Patriots.
CS: What is your prediction for this weekend’s Chiefs/Raiders matchup?
KG: Chiefs with the win 28 to 10 over the Raiders.
Many thanks to Kyle Gray and Casual Animal Brewing for taking time out to answer some questions — and for making great beer!
Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
