Quarterback Chad Henne has been added to the Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster, the team announced on its official Twitter account on Saturday afternoon. The team also announced that defensive tackle Joey Ivie has been promoted to the 53-man roster.
In corresponding moves, offensive tackle Greg Senat was placed on injured reserve and rookie quarterback Kyle Shurmur was waived from the club. Senat was never active during his tenure with the Chiefs. Shurmur was elevated to the 53-man roster in late October due to Patrick Mahomes’ kneecap injury.
Henne is officially questionable to play against the Minnesota Vikings, listed with his ankle injury that sent him to injured reserve in the first place. Henne was back at practice last week but the Week 9 matchup with the Vikings marked the first game in which he was eligible to return to the Chiefs’ roster. Starting QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) is also questionable for the game.
It is likely the Chiefs start Matt Moore with Henne as backup. Ivie made the Chiefs’ initial 53-man roster but was waived and added to the practice squad to make room for Senat in mid-September. Left guard Andrew Wylie’s expected return this week helps with numbers along the offensive line.
