In a game tighter than most would have imagined, the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football 31-24.
First drive: The Chiefs started the drive with a hand off to running back LeSean McCoy. Another short run from McCoy and a short catch from wide receiver Sammy Watkins left the Chiefs short of the first down marker. The Chiefs went three-and-out.
Second drive: A couple of incompletions and a short pass from quarterback Matt Moore gave the Chiefs their second three-and-out of the game. Kicker Harrison Butker missed the field goal from 50 yards out.
Third drive: Moore took his first deep shot of the game to wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but it fell incomplete. The Chiefs gained their first first down of the game with back-to-back runs of six and eight yards. Moore then completed his longest pass of the game for 18 yards to tight end Travis Kelce. Green Bay got their first sack of the game on the following play, but the Chiefs converted on third down with a pass to Hill. A few plays later, Moore completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce to cut into Green Bay’s lead. Chiefs 7 Packers 14
Fourth drive: After dropping the first pass of the drive, wide receiver Sammy Watkins converted on third down with an 11-yard catch and run. Moore completed his second touchdown pass to wide receiver Mecole Hardman for 30 yards. Chiefs 14 Packers 14
Fifth drive: The Chiefs gained their first first down of the drive with a pass to Kelce. Moore completed another deep pass to Hill for 21 yards to get into Packers territory. Another catch and run from Hardman put the Chiefs into field goal range. A short pass to McCoy put the Chiefs into the red zone for the first time, but the Chiefs end up settling for a field goal. Sixth drive: The Chiefs started the second half with a 9-yard run from McCoy. The Chiefs converted the first down on the following play, and converted on third down in the following set of downs. A sack on the next set of downs forced the Chiefs to punt.
Seventh drive: McCoy fumbled on the first play of the drive and the Packers recovered.
Eighth drive: The Chiefs started the drive with an 8-yard run from running back Damien Williams. A 25-yard pass to Watkins put the Chiefs in field goal range, and another 10-yard pass to Watkins put the Chiefs in the red zone. A hands to the face penalty moved the Chiefs to the 4-yard line, and Williams ran it in for the tying score Chiefs 24 Packers 24
Ninth drive: Kelce converted the first third down of the drive with a 9-yard reception, but the Chiefs failed to convert the next set of downs and punted.
First drive: The Packers started the drive with a 5-yard run from running back Aaron Jones, and converted their first third down of the game. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed a deep pass of 34 yards to put the Packers in the red zone. Jones ran for an 11-yard touchdown on the following play, but it was nullified by a holding penalty. Jones scored two plays later with a 4-yard reception. Chiefs 0 Packers 7
Second drive: Tanoh Kpassagnon got a 17-yard sack on third down to force a Packers three-and-out.
Third drive: Rodgers completed a 50-yard pass to Jones on the second play of the drive. Two plays later, the Packers scored on a run from running back Jamaal Williams up the middle. Chiefs 0 Packers 14
Fourth drive: The Packers started the drive with an 8-yard run from Jones. After getting an unnecessary roughness penalty for taking Rodgers out of bounds, linebacker Damien Wilson got his revenge with a 9-yard sack two plays later. An incomplete pass on the following play forced the Packers to punt.
Fifth drive: Chiefs cornerback Brashaud Breeland got a near-interception on the first play of the drive, but it fell incomplete. The Packers converted their first third down of the drive, but failed to convert on the next. The Packers punted the ball.
Sixth drive: The Packers started the drive with around a minute to go in the first half. After a few plays, Rodgers attempted a Hail Mary throw, but was sacked by Taanoh Kpassagnon.
Seventh drive: Rodgers completed passes of 14 and 11 yards to start the drive. He completed an 11-yard pass to tight end Jimmy Graham to convert on third down, and Williams ran for 14 yards to get into Chiefs territory. A run from wide receiver Allen Lazar got Green Bay into the red zone, but a third-down sack on from defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah forced the Packers to settle for a field goal. Chiefs 17 Packers 17
Eighth drive: The Packers started the drive by allowing Rodgers to get sacked for the fifth time. Rodgers scrambled on the next play for 15 yards to get the Packers into the red zone, and a few plays later completed a 3-yard pass to Williams for a touchdown. Chiefs 17 Packers 24
Ninth drive: The Packers started the drive with a 9-yard run to Jones, and followed it up with a 67-yard screen play to Jones for the touchdown. Chiefs 24 Packers 31
Tenth drive: The Packers started the drive at their own 1-yard line, but three runs from Jones gave the Packers 12 yards of breathing room. The Packers ran it a few more times to drain the clock, finally converting a third down to end the game.
WR Mecole Hardman returned punts in the first quarter and returned a kickoff for 34 yards.
- Defensive end Alex Okafor was injured and ruled questionable
- Right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif suffered an ankle injury and was ruled questionable to return
