Defense still matters in the NFL playoffs, and the Ravens are playing it as well as anybody | The Washington Post

Through the season’s first 12 weeks, NFL teams scored 24.1 points per game, which put the league on pace to smash the all-time record. Immediately after Rams-Chiefs, scoring dropped. In the season’s final five weeks — the final Thursday night of November and all of December — teams scored 21.6 points per game.

RANKING THE PLAYOFF QUARTERBACKS: Foles over Brady

6) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: The MVP favorite has to overcome inexperience and the Chiefs’ porous defense to lead Andy Reid’s squad on an extended playoff run. He’s certainly talented enough to carry the Chiefs as a LeBron James-type playmaker, but he will need to conquer his butterflies to make it happen. With plenty of angst and anxiety running rampant in Arrowhead Stadium after the team’s recent playoff failures, Mahomes will need to be on his game to help the AFC’s No. 1 seed maximize its potential.

Right Tackle: Mitchell Schwartz, Kansas City Chiefs

Duh ... My brother Mitch allowed 20 total pressures this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He had only allowed more than two pressures in a game twice this season. That’s not much more to say. He was outstanding this season

How The Indianapolis Colts’ Playoff Performance Could Shape Their Off-Season Plans | Forbes

The point spread and the previous win over the Texans indicate that a win is clearly within the realm of possibility, if not probability. That would send the Colts to Kansas City, and the Chiefs have regularly struggled at home in the postseason. The Chiefs have brilliant young quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a ferocious offense, but perhaps the worst defense in the league.

Support is building for Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes to win NFL MVP award | Kansas City Star

It had seemed to be a two-man race between Mahomes and Saints quarterback Drew Brees, but support for Brees appears to be waning.

Kyle Long on facing brother Chris: ‘We’re not related’ | NFL

“They tell us to tune out the outside, you know, media, stuff like that, but you can’t tune out your family,” Kyle Long told NFL Network’s Stacey Dales on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, I’m playing against my family this week. You’ve got to look at it as just another dude out there. He kind of looks like me, possibly, but on Sunday, we’re not related, so I’ve got to focus on my job.”

On fast track: Lamar Jackson set to become youngest QB to start in playoffs | ESPN

The fact he will be the first quarterback to start a playoff game before his 22nd birthday has seemed to impress everyone except Jackson himself.

”I’m here to play football. I was 21 all year,” Jackson said. “So, it’s another game for me.”

Realistic NFL Trades That Could Happen This Offseason | Bleacher Report

It makes sense for the Ravens to move Flacco and his affordable contract rather than outright releasing him. The Jaguars, who dealt with a struggling Blake Bortles all season, make a ton of sense as a trade partner.

Indianapolis Colts re-sign Jalen Collins to practice squad, drop Anthony Winbush | Indy Star

Cornerback Jalen Collins, who has previously spent time on the team’s practice squad and active roster this season, takes Winbush’s place. Collins is a former second round pick of the 2015 NFL Draft who played 24 career games for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-17.

9 veteran NFL quarterbacks facing a career crossroads in the 2019 offseason | SB Nation

Teams in need of a starting quarterback are going to have some tough decisions to make. The 2019 NFL Draft class wasn’t deep on passing talent even before Oregon QB Justin Herbertdecided to remain in school for his senior season. Players like Duke’s Daniel Jones, Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, Missouri’s Drew Lock, and West Virginia’s Will Grier all have the potential to be legitimate building blocks, but none look like sure-thing Day 1 starters as a pro.

The Elo ratings say that the Ravens have a 60 percent chance to win that game, so the Chargers have a 40 percent chance to win.

Patrick Mahomes Week 17 Film Review: MVP moments

Should things not go as they should at the NFL Honors event on February 2, consider this announcement to be what you base your reality in. Yes, we are going full UCF if the 50 voters for the highest individual honor in football are to make a giant mistake. I’m printing T-shirts commemorating this achievement regardless of what the other AP says.
