Andy Reid’s Record Against Bill Belichick Suggests High-Scoring Affair | Fanduel
Belichick owns the overall edge with a 6-2 record against Reid. However, Belichick has coached 342 games (postseason included) and only seven times have his teams allowed 40 points or more. Three of those instances came at the expense of Reid’s offenses.
Pats open as playoff underdogs for only 2nd time since 2007 vs. Chiefs | ESPN
New England had been favored in its past 12 playoff games, a streak that dates back to the 2013 AFC Championship Game. The Patriots were road underdogs against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos and lost 26-16 in that game.
Opinion: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the best thing to happen to Kansas City Chiefs | USA Today
“That first couple of games, we thought, `Is this an outlier? Is this something that’s going to last?’” Chiefs CEO and chairman Clark Hunt acknowledged Saturday. “He literally has done it every week.”
Bears won’t rule out pursuing RB Kareem Hunt | ESPN
Bears head coach Matt Nagy and Hunt have a relationship that dates back to Kansas City, where Nagy served as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator during Hunt’s rookie year in 2017.
Nagy said Monday that he reached out and spoke to Hunt via phone one week ago.
”I talked to Kareem, completely wanting to know how he’s doing,” Nagy said. “We had a good conversation. Here’s a kid that I spent a year coaching on offense. It’s a tough situation.”
Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady connected by record book, epic Week 6 game | ESPN
Brady, 41, and Mahomes, 23, are separated by many years on a calendar and many seasons in experience, but they are connected in the passing record book. They are two of the three quarterbacks to throw 50 touchdown passes in a season, Brady in 2007 and Mahomes this season.
They are two of the seven quarterbacks to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season, Brady in 2011 and Mahomes this season.

Linebacker
2. Dee Ford
Dee Ford is two years older at the age of 27 but has 25 sacks over his last three seasons—while missing 11 games. Improving and smack in the middle of his prime, Ford is going to probably drive up a bidding war and get the same amount as Clowney.
Jamal Adams wants Jets to make run at Dee Ford | NBC Sports
“Yeah I like #55 Dee Ford off that end for us! Let’s pay him what he wants!” Adams wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
The Jets have plenty of cap space and a need for an edge rusher like Ford, but the Chiefs can use a franchise tag to keep Ford off the open market and won’t be making moves on any front until they’ve joined Adams in starting the offseason.

Kyler Murray declares intention to enter NFL Draft | NFL
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport noted that Murray’s decision to enter the draft doesn’t lock him into football, but provides him the option. Declaring for the draft officially foregoes any opportunity to return to college.
Murray was a first-round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 2018 MLB draft. In the past several days, various reports indicated the A’s were attempting to woo Murray toward baseball and away from entering the NFL.
Sony Michel-led Patriots draft class hit hard by injuries | ESPN
Most improved rookie: Seventh-round cornerback Keion Crossen is the choice, and the reason is twofold: 1. There isn’t another healthy draft pick on the roster (beside Michel) who has consistently played in games. 2. He probably came the furthest of anyone, considering he played in college at Western Carolina in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Expected Saints free agent Mark Ingram ‘not just looking to leave New Orleans’ | Nola.com
“I’m not looking just to leave New Orleans,” Ingram said Monday (Jan. 14). “I’m not looking just to up and leave New Orleans. My squad, you know we got a good squad. I feel like we could do this type of thing for many more years. I’m not looking just to bail out of New Orleans.”
Adam Gase already has unique place in Jets history | ESPN
1. Football nerd: Adam Gase is months away from coaching his first practice, but he already has made franchise history: Of the Jets’ 19 head coaches, he’s the first without any college or pro playing experience. Yeah, that’s right, even Eric Mangini, with his Wall Street body, played college ball. He was a nose tackle at Wesleyan. In case you’re wondering, the only other current NFL head coach who never played beyond high school is the Denver Broncos’ new hire, Vic Fangio, who attended East Stroudsburg.
Mike Munchak leaves Steelers to take Broncos’ OL job | NFL
Mike Munchak has agreed to become the Denver Broncos’ offensive line coach, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported, per a source informed of the deal. The team later made the news official on Monday. The Steelers promoted assistant offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett to the main OL job.
Matt Nagy reacts to Cody Parkey talking about his miss on TV | ESPN
Head coach Matt Nagy expressed disapproval on Monday with Parkey’s decision to appear as a guest on a network morning show a mere five days after he missed a potentially game-winning 43-yard field goal attempt in Chicago’s 16-15 playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
”For me, you understand that we always talk about a ‘we’ and not a ‘me’ thing,” Nagy said at the team’s season-ending news conference.

Andy Reid Monday: the defensive turnaround, the Patriots, and other pretty neat stuff
”It’s the young guys — the guys that are new in there — improving every week,” said Reid. “Daniel Sorensen’s back in the mix, and he’s kind of been getting his feet under him as we’ve gone. And they’re challenging. They’re communicating. You’ve heard comments from the guys — the things they’ve said about communication. That’s so important.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid could win the NFL Triple Crown
Reid won a NFC Championship as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, but lost Super Bowl XXXIX to the New England Patriots24-21. With a victory against his 2004 nemesis at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Reid would win an AFC Championship. So a win in Super Bowl LIII two weeks later would give Reid what I’m going to call an NFL Triple Crown.
Sunday’s AFC championship could be the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history
The Chiefs have played two games in which it was 1 degree at kickoff—2016 against the Titansand in 1983 against the Denver Broncos.
If the temperature winds up being “well below zero,” as Schefter described above, it would indeed be the coldest game in the stadium’s history.
