Is the Defense a result of NFL "Points of Emphasis"

Disclaimer: This is not an all out defense of our defense (oh my!) just a random thought that popped into my head

Bob Suttons Defense looks like a dumpster fire.

"Look at Houston dropping into coverage"

"Those CB's are garbage"

"Bob should be fired!"

The list goes on, and on, and on, and on, on.... (you get it!)

But what if this is just a product of the new NFL.

What if the Chiefs are a blueprint for what the NFL wants, and needs, to bring relevance back to a league that has been struggling to find its way the past few years.

The NFL has now announced that the controversial call in the Green Bay/Vikings game on Clay Mathews was the correct call and they are sending tapes out to the zebras as a teaching method. After re-watching that play roughly 30 times, I still do not see the foul and after the 29th time an idea popped into my head:

"They are going all in on protecting the QB, what the hell are defenses supposed to do?"

Enter the "Sutton Defense"

He is dropping our best pass rusher into coverage, using him to fill lanes in the passing game and not destroying QBs and I am starting to think this is intended.

I would call this a "conspiracy theory" now but it does bring up a valid point:

Is it better to let the QB throw the ball underneath for 5 yards or hit him and risk a 15-yard penalty AND first down?
