Chiefs vs. Steelers: What they’re saying

Head coach Mike Tomlin spoke with the local Kansas City media as he heads into the Week 2 matchup vs. the Chiefs on Sunday

Week 2 is upon us, and the Kansas City Chiefs head to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers at Heniz Field on Sunday.

The Chiefs will be looking to get their first win in Pittsburgh since December of 1987. We caught up with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin to get his thoughts going into the weekend:

On Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes:

“He’s a talented guy,” Tomlin stated point blank. “He has all the physical talent, arm strength and accuracy. Obviously he’s new to playing, but he’s not new to Kansas City. He’s been there under the tutelage of those [veteran] guys and it’s showed. He’s performed well and he’s got a strong supporting cast around him.”

On what Juju Smith-Schuester adds to the passing game:

“He’s a professional and he’s one of the eligibles,” Tomlin said. “We don’t ask him to take a backseat to anyone. We ask him to make plays and he has when called upon and we expect that to continue.”

On expectations from James Conner in that three down role in the backfield:

“I’m not making any bold predictions on what lies ahead this weekend I’m really just trying to have a good day today,” Tomlin said. “He’s expected to have a good practice and he’ll be a featured element in that practice and we’ll see where he goes from there.”
