Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week! As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on Arrowhead Pride Radio on 610 Sports Radio as part of my “Defense and Beer of the Week” segment.
With Thursday being National IPA Day and Friday being International Beer Day, I picked another hoppy offering for those out there! This week’s Beer of the Week is none other than Free State Stormchaser IPA!
A 5.7% blonde American IPA, Stormchaser is full of a citrus punch due to their usage of Crystal, Centennial, and (one of my favorites) Citra hops. These hops in the beer give it a grapefruity and orangey smell to go with the citrus flavor of the beer. Couple that with some wheat malt in the base of the beer, and you’ve got a lighter bodied IPA that doesn’t overwhelm with bitterness.
Free State Brewing Co has been operating out of Lawrence, KS since 1989 as the first legal brewery in the state of Kansas since the pre-prohibition era. Located on the North end of Mass Street, Free State is a staple of Lawrence, serving great food and great brews. A few years ago, they started distribution in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, finally offering those outside of Lawrence the ability to taste their offerings.
On top of Stormchaser IPA, Free State makes several delicious beers. A perennial favorite, Ad Astra Ale is one of the very first craft beers I was turned on to in my younger days. I’ve gone through many a keg of Copperhead Pale Ale, and one of my new favorites, Garden Party, is a gold medal winner for the Herb and Spice Beer category at the Great American Beer Festival!
And just as proof that I’m walking the walk, I made sure to go pick up some Stormchaser Thursday in honor of it being the Beer of the Week!
Make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some of Free State’s Stormchaser IPA this weekend if you can!
Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
