Andy Reid confirms Spencer Ware, Mitch Morse and Dee Ford “should be ready to go”

Reid held his first press conference of training camp Sunday afternoon at Missouri Western State University

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid arrived at training camp at Missouri Western State University bearing good news on Sunday afternoon.

Running back Spencer Ware, center Mitch Morse and outside linebacker Dee Ford are among the players who should be “ready to go” for the Chiefs’ full-team practice on Thursday. Ware was the only player of the three who was already seen walking the campus Sunday.

“Really, the only two—(Ashton) Lampkin and De’Anthony Thomas are really the only two right now,” Reid said in his opening press conference. “We’re looking at all of them. You’ll see them here. Most of the guys who were banged up are here. This will be kind of a jump start. We’ll see how that goes, too. We’ll take it slow and see how they do.

“Really those two (Lampkin and Thomas), we’re evaluating now. De’Anthony’s made great progress, but we just have to see how that goes, and Lampkin the same way. They’re both right on the edge there. Rick (Burkholder) is actually meeting with them now, and we’ll see how that goes. Everybody else is good. Again, I want to see [them] on the field, and we’ll kind of monitor as it goes, but they all should be ready to go.”

I had my questions about Ware and Morse being ready for the start of training camp, but this is a very pleasant surprise.

Lampkin, 24, spent the entire 2017 season on injured reserve due to a torn ACL. Thomas, 25, broke his tibia in during the Chiefs’ Week 17 against the Denver Broncos last season but took less money to stay with Kansas City.
