Legendary Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali turned some heads with a post on his official Instagram account over the weekend.
The post features a photo of Hali, 34, chasing down former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
When you need to get there in a hurry. I’m coming this time will be different. #chiefskingdom
The Chiefs released Hali in mid-March after 12 seasons with the club, and Hali had since turned his attention to music. But a tweet from June 23 indicated otherwise.
I’m stepping away from the music world as of today. I thank everyone who’s had a hand in helping bring this amazing project “Tamba Juice” to light especially @masterkraft_. I want thank all the media outlets that’s posted my material. Thank you— Tamba Hali (@TambaHali91) June 23, 2018
“I’m stepping away from the music world as of today,” Hali tweeted.
I doubt the Chiefs would be interested in Hali returning as a player at this stage of his career given the sudden depth and youth movement they have built at the outside linebacker position. Justin Houston and Dee Ford will be healthy for the beginning of training camp, and the Chiefs are grooming Tanoh Kpassagnon and rookie second-rounder Breeland Speaks behind them. Veteran Frank Zombo rounds out the room.
All five players are younger than Hali, who recorded just 99 snaps in five regular-season games for the Chiefs in 2017.
Where I could see Hali returning to the Chiefs is as a coach, and Andy Reid has expressed potential interest in that before.
“I’m grateful I had the privilege of working with Tamba and getting to know him on a personal level,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star, back in March. “His love for the game is incredible, and he’s passed on that passion and his knowledge to a lot of our young players. I can see him being a coach one of these days. He’s built a tremendous legacy here in Kansas City, and we wish him the best as he moves forward.”
Hali seems to enjoy teaching, as he could frequently be seen spending extra time on the field after practice with younger Chiefs at training camp during his later seasons with the club.
Hali even stayed on the field after the Chiefs’ 2017 Week 15 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers to share what he knew with LA defensive end Joey Bosa.
I’d imagine many Chiefs fans would be happy to see Hali back in the red and gold as a coach.
