Longtime KC Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson is visiting the rival Oakland Raiders.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

Nope, this isn’t the same as the Chiefs drafting Kahlil McKenzie, son of Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie. Derrick Johnson, 35, had been a Chief since 2005 and was (is) one of the most beloved players in franchise history. The Chiefs let him become a free agent this offseason after 13 seasons but he said he intends to play someplace this year. Apparently, Oakland is one of those places he could play. How much does DJ have left? He’s clearly on the decline but if healthy perhaps he could offer something to a new team.

This would be very, very tough to swallow. It’s up there with Jamaal Charles signing with the Broncos last year or even Neil Smith in Denver. I don’t know how much I can blame DJ because he’s just trying to get a job but this one would sting more than usual.

Andy Reid said upon releasing DJ that he hopes he could come back and coach one day. I can think of some Chiefs fans who would prefer he come back to coach in KC than play in Oakland.

Meanwhile, the voice of reason, Pete Sweeney, points out he’s just trying to get a job.
